headunit security

My 2011 jeep came with a very touch screen navigation. It's gettin warm and I want to take the doors off, but down in south florida a touch screen navigation in the open is a gift. I know tuffy makes something for 2007-2010 models. anything for 2011? Anyone have any ideas? is this easily removed? Is there a product that locks or protects it? Any ideas welcome except for smart ass comments like "real jeeps don't have touchscreen headunits." Thanks guys!

anyone??

I wouldn't think stock would be a big target.

Buy a big dog and take it with you when you have the doors off.

A thief probably wouldn't know the difference, or care. He's probably not stealing it for his personal use.

People don't steal car stereos anymore. They simply aren't worth much. Aftermarkets aren't worth anything because they're coded to the vehicle.

What you mean coded to vehicle?

I think he meant that some of them will not work if they are hooked up to another vehicle. Sort of like how your key is coded to your vehicle.

I did not know stereos had that feature, though. Learn something new everyday.

They dont have that i know of. You have to buy a vehicle specific wiring harness and wire it you

The 2013 and newer units are coded to the vehicle from the factory. Even the base head unit is "antitheft". The newer jeeps are a little better at making it difficult to get to the mounting hardware. I think the older jeeps just had a center section that pulls out. The new dash design has screws hidden all over to deter theft.

He said aftermarkert. Stock headunits work only in jeep/dodge/Chrysler

MarcelOrtiz 02-26-2013 07:24 AM

just leave it on and forget about it. i rather they take it then they breaking my entire dashboard to take it away. an alarm system for the car will be enough

This.

Coded or not they aren't worth much and would be harder to sell. They could sell a portable GPS or an iPod in a second tho. I wouldn't worry about the stereo.

You can but an alarm system with proximity sensors that goes off when someone stick a hand in your open Jeep. I think viper makes one. There was also a thread in here with DIY instructions although if i recall it was a bit too sensitive. I'll post link if i find it.

I wouldn't be concerned if it were just the normal headunit, but it's the touchscreen navigation system. I feel like someone could sell that. I think ill just go with the alarm route. Thanks guys

Apparently the folks that tried to pry the 730N out of my JKU while it was sitting on the dealer's lot didn't get that memo. :D

concerns like this is why I bought a jeep without anything nice in the console. I want to run it top and doors off with no worries. even if they stole my pos radio, I'd use the open hole for storage and not even buy another :thumb:

I have to agree with you, wish I would have taken this route in the first place. But the Nav and synced media system is such a convenience, it not exactly easy to get rid of now. Just wish there was a good way to protect it
