2n17X Black Dimond trail

Who want to run it?
I'm looking for some eager soles that would like to tackle this trail...its my clubs Adopt -A-Trail and I need to go observe it and see how the weather as been treating it...
if I can gain some interest we can set a date and time...
Thanx..

I looked this up on Dirtopia. Looks like fun. I am saving for my winch and bumper so it's a bit far away for me right now. Gas money. How much jeep do you think it would take to do it? I'd have to drive from the beach.

It's pretty much a more extreme version of Cleghorn.

I've run that trail several times, its close by and fun. I went up the lower half last week and it was fine, but I'm sure the upper half would have some snow in the shady area. It only has a couple of spots that make it a black diamond, but it's scenic and a good passage trail to Pilot Rock or up to Arrowhead. I'd go with you depending on when your going.

suicideking 02-11-2013 11:55 PM

I'm interested.

I haven't run it in a long time! Last time I ran it was the first run after getting my lift. I made it with open diffs on 33's. I did struggle on that first big hill though.

I've been wanting to run it again now that I'm built up a bit more.

This is the thread from last time, almost exactly a year ago: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f55/who...-a-136657.html

highwayman 02-12-2013 10:55 AM

I'd be up for it, but would need to be a sun.

I agree, probably best to wait a few months for the snow to melt. Then make it a run starting at 2N17X and ending in Big Bear.

highwayman 02-12-2013 11:25 AM

Nah, sorry about that. I meant if Steve runs on a Sunday, I'd be in.

DTM 02-12-2013 12:26 PM

Sounds fun Steve. You can put me down as a maybe. I'm going to have some work done on my jeep in the next few weeks. So if my jeep is not in the shop or in pieces I will go. Last time I was up there I lead a run going up 2n17x then we attempted to run Cleghorn backwards. I say attempted because an XJ had a water pump issue and we ran out of time a few miles into Cleghorn...

yomondo 02-12-2013 12:27 PM

I'd be interested, but unfortunately I don't have an availability for a few months.

I would like to do this again like last time only I will be up in the dez riding bikes over the Pres. Day Weekend.

What ever became of the guy with the over heated XJ? That was a bummer trip when that happened.

DTM 02-12-2013 12:34 PM

Dave, it turned out to be a split hose just above the water pump. Funny, we never saw a hose up in there...

WOKNROX 02-12-2013 12:35 PM

Sweet...looks like we have some interest in this....Forestry says the Club needs to log hours on the trail and I didn't want to run it a hundred times along....ha ha!

We'll have to figure out a day that works for the majority ...maybe we could make it a double header and run Marble Canyon also...?

H8-roads 02-12-2013 01:06 PM

I'd be in for this. Ran it a couple months back with a big group and we had a blast but I'd wait for the snow to melt.

yomondo 02-12-2013 01:19 PM

Well if it takes a few months for the snow to melt, I may be able to get in on this run.

xjrguy 02-12-2013 02:57 PM

I'm on 37's and lifted 5 inches. Both ends locked. Is that sufficient for this run?

I think you're good for ANY run with those specs... :D

I did it on 2.5" lift, open diffs and 33's. So yeah, you're good.

I'd say one locker suggested for this run, but can be done on open diffs. Just might need a tug.

Hmmm, not sure. You may need some help over some of the rocks. :D

That is strange, never saw anything looking like a hose in there. I guess when things like that happen everyone needs to get out the flashlights and have a close look to see if there are any surprises tucked away. :banghead:

The first little hike at the start of the trail (north end) has gotten a bit steep. Hit it wrong and you could roll. We were on it a few weeks ago when it was icy so that made it a little challenging. Word of warning, if you head up to Pinnacle area to run Willow Creek Jeep Trail, looks like they bulldozed it. Although it wasn't a challenging stretch before, it was fun. No longer fun now. Just a flat road. The deep water crossing was iced over though so we made a lot of noise going through that.

The weekend after that is TDS.
So maybe March 9or10th? But I now some of u guys r going to the Calico run that weekend...so?

JoeBot13 02-13-2013 08:50 AM

March 9/10th would be good for me ... would actually give me time to do some maintenance ... i have to flush my diffs and install all my new goodies
