Pics of my new Jeep TJ + Introduction

Hey everyone my name is Kyle.
After searching all summer I finally got myself a worthy 4x4. Its a 1997 Jeep Wrangler 5spd 2.5L. Always been a fan and finally I got myself one! It is in excellent condition with almost no rust. 100k flat and runs great! I got it for $4700, I think that was a decent price? It also has 35 x 12.5 15 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A tires mounted on some sleek looking Mickey Thomson classic II rims. This leads me into my next question. These tires, although nice, are a little overkill for me. I am looking at downgrading to something smaller...maybe 31's?? Would it be possible to mount say a set of 31 x 10.5 tires on my rims? I am looking for some type of replacement. I am sure that this has a lift, what size do you guys think it is? Would 31's look goofy? I just cannot afford to drive with 35's. Thanks and feel free to comment!

It looks great. I've always liked red for a color on TJs. Congrates on the purchase.

Hi Kyle,

Nice look'n Jeep! Red ALWAYS looks good on TJ's. I'm sure you'll have alot of fun in it.

As for the tires, it's really all an individual type of thing. I personaly like the 35's that are on there now. 31's might look good as well. How you want it to look and fuction is all up to you. I'll post a photo of mine that may give you an "in-between" perspective. Mine has 33x12.50's.

Enjoy your Jeep!

Welcome to WF!! Nice Jeep. I love the FORD signs on the building!!! YEA FORD!!!!

Welcome to WF and good luck with your Jeep.

IMO - I would not downgrade to anything smaller than 33's unless you intend to remove your lift. Anything smaller will look out of place. I would also suggest a tire that is 10.5" wide so it does not go beyond the fender flares.

go with 33 12.5's thats what mine has... get the same kind of tire you have now.. and send me your 35's ill break em in for you.. if you go to small your jeeps gonna be disproportionate.

kylebgt 09-30-2008 09:38 AM

But what size lift do you guys think it has? 2'', 3''?? I am very inexperienced on off-road mods and am just starting to learn. I would go with 33's if I had a 4.0, but tires that large have got to be stressing my little 4cyl. I am pretty set on switching to 31''s but may need to ditch the rims as well to do that. Even if it has a 3'' lift 31''s should be large enough right? Thanks everyone!

Looks like a 2 or 3" Body lift hard to tell; 31's will fit on a stock set up, rims and all; And yes that is a white sahara, MY favorite Jeep ever!! (I already pm'd him to let him know its the shit!!)

sailsurf7713 09-30-2008 05:09 PM

And I'm afraid to move up to 31's on my 4 banger. I'm surprised that thing even moves haha. Definitely a really good looking heep. Congrats on a good purchase.

It looks like it just has a big body lift to clear those giant tires. Take the body lift off and go from there. 31's will fit a stock wrangler and you can get a moderate real lift from there.

Would recommend a 15x7 inch rim with 31x10.5 if you plan to wheel it. It'll be harder to loose a bead.

Congrats once again.

1loose the ford sign 2keep the 35s 3loose the body lift 4 or go with 33's over all it looks good!!!!

Welcome! Nice looking Jeep. I say ditch the 35's and get 32's or 33's.

kylebgt 10-01-2008 01:52 AM

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome, this place is great! I have always been a jeep fan. I think it stemmed from my youth when my dad would tow me around in my sled in the deep snow in his good ole CJ. I remember riding in the passenger seat you could see the road beneath you . Hopefully Jeep worked out the rust problem with the TJ's. The Ford signs will stay:p That's my pride and joy Mustang gt 5spd in the background of the 1st pic. If the Jeep is good to me I just may add a sign:D I will be going with the 31's since the 4cyl is anemic. I think that I am going to find a set of used jeep rims and throw some Kuhmo Road Venture A/T on. They are $104 a peice and have good ratings. After that I'm gonna sell the set of Rims & tires that are on it now (poor college student) I am thinking that my Jeep has a 2'' body lift. Does anyone have a pic of a tj with this lift with 31's?

That is one nice TJ! Do your tires rub at all with the stock suspension?

MudDan 10-02-2008 10:46 AM

I've got some lift in the mail and just ordered Dunlop Mud Rovers 32-11.5-15's. Hope to have it all together by next week's end. I'll be too excited not to post pictures up!

Kyle,
Welcome.
Can we get a picture of a front spring and sit on the ground and take a picture of the side of the Jeep. This will help decide the lift amount.
You'll need to regear with any tire larger than a 31. Also, bigger than 33's and a lot more mods should really be done. Depending on your lift it might be easier just to go back down.

i figured why start a new thread for an introduction. just tryin to say hi ^_^

Ol' Red 10-06-2008 10:46 PM

there is no way you can fit 35's on just a 2 inch body lift, youve probably got a 2-2.5 inch suspension lift or 2 inch coil spacers on it too. take the body lift off and it will look fine with 31's.

kylebgt 10-06-2008 11:32 PM

I looked at it the other day and you're absolutely correct. It has a 2'' suspension lift and a 2'' body lift. I am planning on taking the body lift off, just have to find out exactly how. Here are the 31 x10.5 15 tires that I ordered last night for $101 a piece:p Kumho Road Venture A/T's

welcome, and nice jeep :punk:

scotiez 10-07-2008 07:13 PM

Looks like a nice tire. Are you keeping the same rims you have on your jeep? If you get new rims i would get some close to the same style but not as deep.
