Couple of questions for the experts
Ok guys I'm somewhat of a newb and learning everything as I go.
Some specs on my jeep: 95 Wrangler w/ 2.5.
Mods and info: -4.0 tb and 1" tb spacer.
-Two inch body lift (i think)
- 31" tires
- BIG ASS BRUSHGUARD on the front:punk:

So here are a couple of questions I've been wondering about:

#1 Does anyone know what is up with my tranny? (aside from the fact that the ax5 sucks) It pops out first frequently and fifth is gone. I'm thinking the popping out of first maybe due to the body lift. I've heard they cause problems if the length of the shifter isnt extended. Any ideas?

#2 This might sound dumb but Ive been arguing with a friend aboutthis for awhile. I have injectors for a 4.0 because I bought a wrecked one. Now he says I can put those on and increase the fuel pressure and get more hp because I already have alot more air coming in (4.0 tb and spacer)
That seems like it would make it run rich or really crappy. Not sure never messed with anything like that.

#3 Can I put longer shackles on there by themselves for more height without any major mods? Is this a case where quick discconnects would come in handy?
Ive never done anything with suspension. Any info would be awesome. Sorry if the questions have already been covered or if they are dumb

O yeah and one more: Will I see any gains if I re gear? Aside from running larger tires. Gas mileage chiefly...

#1 yes ax 5 is a weak trans. the linkage could be the prob w/ the body lift.

#2 changing injectors doesn't change fuel pressure. i'm not sure on the injectors, you'll have to look at the different volume they produce, nothing to do with pressure. they mihgt even be the same who knows. i wouldn't spend too much time getting any more out of that motor, its a work horse, and will keep ticking, but you aren't gonna get the power you want out of it

#3 longer shackles will give you a little lift, half of what the length is. 2" shackle wil give you 1" lift. and with tired springs maybe less. they are a cheap easy way to get a little boost, plan on removing them if you get into a better suspension.

#4 now regearing you will notice. that will help you, but you already have 4.10 gears, the biggest you can go is 4.56, and i think an aftermarket has a 4.88 set that will fit in that axle.

but like i already said, you won't get a ton of power out of that engine, i had one, and it will go forever, and take you almost anywhere off road (except sand, they don't do so good there) just not very quickly.

alright thanks man! finally some answers. Eventually though i wanna do some stuff to th engine (turbo maybe). I like the 2.5 and I realize it would be easier to go with the 4.0 or a 350 but I want to do something different. Im gonna work with it and see what it can do.

#2 Ok i think I didnt make myself clear sorry. Thats what I was trying to ask if the delivered more volume and if I did put them in would I need to increase the pressure for optimum atomization?

#3 Cool so I can go with longer ones. Are there any problems that I will run into though? will everything still fit without any other mod than just the shackles?

#4 So what gears should I go with? Keeping mind this is my DD right now

I don't really recommend beefing up the 2.5l engine, like already said, it's a great engine and will last forever, but whatever performance mods you throw on there are really not worth it, imo.

Since your riding 31's, and you want a little more power, then you could go for the 4.56's. They should give you the power your missing from 5th.

What do you plan to do with your rig in the future? If it will be a dedicated DD and you want to keep 31's forever, then sure throw the 4.56's on there and be done. But, if you someday plan to move up to 33's 35's or higher, your'e probably going to want to get a beefier axle in place on the Dana 35 and when you do that you cold get gears to match the larger tires.. Just some food for your thought!

longer shackles are really all you need there, if you go 2" you might want to get longer shocks, yours are probably worn out anyway. i wouldn't go any longer than that on shackles.

fuel pressure isn't what gives you any more power. if those injectors have a higher flow rate you might get a hair more power, but i doubt it. i'd run those injectors at whatever pressure the 4.0 for similar year has, probably around 40 off the top of my head for a multi port. i don't think you can give that motor enough mods to require more fuel.

imo if you put gears in that stock axle go the lowest you can, difference from 4.10 to 4.56 isn't big time noticeable, i know cuz yukon shipped me the wrong set once and i put 4.56 in when i ordered 4.10. and i'm sure you know this but you have to regear both axles. when i mistakenly put 4.56 in the rear of my jeep it felt really funny when i tried to use 4 wd, and the rear end tried to pass the front, and it didn't want to come out.

I'm not looking for massive amounts of power. I know that the 4 banger has limitations no matter what I throw on there. Really I want something that I can drive around but still kick ass on the trails. Doc I will def. take your advice on the shackles and shocks. Down the line I would like to go SOA but till then I can live with an inch or two more. As far as the injectors I think Im gonna just hang on to them for awhile... dont want to throw them in there and mess anything up. Ive never messed with modding an engine aside from cai, throttle bodies, spacers, mostly intake never injection or anything. Bamian the sig is a true story and if the woman ever finds out that I put it on here... well it wont be pretty lol

all that hiher flow injectors do is allow you to pus more fuel through at one time. more fuel does not mean more power. not by a long shot. it does how ever offer you a wider range of tuning options. when and or if you go with a turbo you will be able to dial in a better fuel ratio. its just like taking a 950 cfm carb and puting it on a streight six. all you are going to do is drownd it out. i will say that the 4 banger is the same motor out of a neon though.

same motor out of a Neon? Not sure I follow. Dodge Neon engines are only 2.0. Unless you have srt-4 which is the 2.4 liter.

nevermind. you were talking about the 03 and up wranglers. gotcha. i got a 95 though.

Thats an interesting idea of swapping the neon engine in... those things are awesome. i had one two years ago but i flipped it into a ditch:banghead:

Think I'm going to go for a different type of four cylinder... thinking the cummins 4bt. sounds pretty bitchin

neon motors suck, and the new 4 banger sucks to. they are known for head gasket probs, and cam seal probs. they will leak like a siv. definately not worth that effort.

ok sounds good! I like the sound of the diesel altogether. More hp, more torque, better mileage.
