Having electrical issues
I am desperate here. 1993 Wrangler will not pass inspection because of an electrical issue. The passenger side blinkers blink erratically when I turn on the turn signal. Also, when I press the brakes, the dashboard lights light up and the yellow lights below my head lights light up. Any suggestions on what I can do to correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated bc I am broke and can't afford a mechanic. Thanks

sounds like a bad ground, check, clean and tighten grounds. check for corroded nasty sockets also. check for a bad bulb with the blinker on one side going erratic. good luck, sometimes its real easy, sometimes its not

I am far from mechanically inclined. Where would I check the grounds and find the sockets?

The passenger side blinkers are both the one on the front wheel well and also the back tail light. Do you think that could still be a bad bulb?

I really do appreciate your help.

i'd say get yourself a haynes or some kind of repair manual with wiring diagrams. probably all your problems are from one bad wire or ground. good luck

To me it sounds like the wiring. If your car has been exposed to a lot of heat, or ran real hot on a few occasions for whatever reason, the coating on the wires sometimes will melt and fuse with another wire. This can potentially cause cross voltage - sending the wrong amount of voltage to the wrong place - thus creating a surge of power on one thing, and a deficit of power on another.

You can also just try tipping the guy doing your inspection a little bit of money, and have him pass you. Never fails for me when I need it.

Brad, I second jpdocDave's comments. Get the manual and spend some time with it to correct the problem. You'll be far better off in the long run learning the in's and out's of a 14 yr old or more vehicle. Otherwise you could find yourself SOL in the back country with a dead battery and no help around.

You guys are the best. I will pick up a manual and check out the diagrams. Wish me luck. I appreciate all the input.

let us know, and just a really quick little info on why it is most likely a ground. a bad or weak ground allows the voltage to backfeed through that ground, putting weak voltage to other bulbs and junk like that.
