Make a CJ5 Hardtop from a CJ7

CJ5 hardtops are hard to come by, while old CJ7 tops are about a dime a dozen (atleast in these parts). I took an old CJ7 top and cut it down to fit my 77 CJ5. A 'budget' build that came in under $200 bucks total.

I did a write up on it DiggerDirect Artifact Recovery- CJ5 Hardtop for anyone interested.

Nice project, and it looks good too.

Digger nice job! I actually have a 1973 cj5 I picked up and still have the hard top from my 80 cj7 I might try this with it. Can you give any pointers?

Is the seam above the rear window? And what kind of doors are those? I have a 76 and wouldn't mind a hard top.

If they are modified doors from a 7 he did a good job!

The seam for shortening the top 10" is directly over the middle of the side windows, the horizontal seam for increasing the height is in the middle of the side windows. The doors are plywood core skinned in fiberglass mat/cloth. Only thing I would done different is make door windows that opened right from the git go, (still haven't gotten around to it, used my half doors until winter). The link in the opening post still works to get to the pictures/write up, if not I can re post them here.
