2005 TJ possible purchase

I'm going to look at an 05 with the 4.0 and 6 speed tomorrow. Anything specific about the 05 I should be wary of ?

The 05's and 06's have fuel backsplash issues when you are pumping fuel. You will just have to get used to slowing the pump down before it is full or you can modify the filler neck.

I just did this today, it's like a mini gasoline fountain...ugh. Embarrassing.

It is embarrassing and quite annoying to have to slow the pump down to a crawl just to get that last gallon in there and not all over the side of the jeep or myself. I'm surprised there wasn't a recall considering...

I agree. I may have to look into getting that fixed.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll listen for the laughing monkey and tell my daughter to watch out for backsplash.

05wrangler 02-15-2013 10:50 PM

never had backsplash problem on mine, and the OPDA has a recall on some months witch the jeep was made in. Mine was under the recall and was replaced at 50K miles. the one they out in was reengineered and hasnt had a problem since iv owned it

It's not mine honestly. Yep you will feel guilty when pumping to full I have the same issue so I try to be smart about filling Up so I don't look like a gomer

05 wrangler As far as i know there isn't a recall on the opda for 05 or 06. Were you able to have the dealership Pay for the new opda and labor. I did hear there was a tbs not a recall.
I'm interested because I have an 05 and I have had the p0016 code. I would rather not pay for it if I don't have too.

Mine was covered under warranty when it went at 68k miles

The OPDA is pretty much a nonissue follow the link in the second thread. Just don't start reading from the begining it starts way back when their was no good fix . Do a search for Stripperguy or Dorman , both fix the OPDA . The Gas splashing back is also an easy fix . Their are a few things that the O5s and 6 have that are usually not mentioned . Better heater controls , higher preasure fuel injectors and I am sure more like any other vehicle its "usually " better to get as new as you can.

Looked at the 05 my daughter didn't like it. They had a 02 Saharah with 100k 3" lift 4.0 5 speed, D44 with 3.73. Warn winch, 33/12.50/15 tires. Guess which one we bought. It's almost identical to her last one. I didn't like the tube bumpers but she does.
