Savvy gas tank skid installed...finally
bought it a month ago and finally got it put in yesterday. i set aside 2 days for install, judging from the other jeep projects on my 97 that turned into a pain in the a$$. I took me just about 3 hours and went very smooth. i was scared to tackle this project, but after reading some things here and you tube videos i felt more comfortable. while depresserizing the fuel system at the fuel rail i learned that gas eats right through a red plastic solo cup...whoops:banghead:. i gave up on that pulled the fuel pump fuse and ran the engine out of gas.I tried to lower the tank without a floor jack:whistling:(i dont have one).dont be a dumbass like me,use a floor jack. I quickly realized thats was a bad idea and borrowed one from a friend. the savvy directions said to pull the plastic wheel well covers. i did that but later noticed that it was not necessary to do it on my 97. savvy included the plastic clips to put it back on so no big deal. after returning the rugged ridge skid plate i bought a few months ago due to that obnoxious weight of it i went with savvy. yeah its a few more dollars but its just a few pounds more than the factory skid. The savvy also came with new straps for the tank (old ones where toast) and all new hardware you need to mount. the rugged ridge skid used all old straps and bolts. pay the extra money for the savvy its worth it. i am more than happy with it:D. they also gave me a forum discount, just email them they respond very fast.
