Folding The Back Seat
It seams like sometimes even the simplest of operations in these things can be a huge PITA! LOL :banghead:
I tried folding my back seat earlier and one of the cables that run down through the seat is broke. I tried tracing the wire to follow it to the latch. No such luck. So does anyone know where the latch is on each side and how to manually operate it without using the release handle?
Are you sure the cable is broken, did you open the seat back? Is the back folding and the bottom not tumbling?
Anyway, your profile says you have a 06 correct? 97-02, 03-03 seat latches are different. If you do have a 06, your latch is like mine. I had a problem where the back would fold but the bottom would not release. I worked at it but the bottom latch just would not release. I pryed the latch open with a flat tip screwdriver to get it to release. Then I had to grind a little of latch to get it to clear.
I had another thread that I can't find right now with a picture highlighted where I took a grinder to the latch. In the second to last picture in the second thread, you see the 'C' shaped latch. I opend up the opening a little with the grinder and it has been fine since.
Alright I start off with the first questions here and work to the bottom.
I'm positive the cable is broken/unattached. After I lift the handle I can grab the cable and pull and the cable just keeps fedding out of the hole.
I couldn't figure out how to open the seat back. I found a place on each side that was velcroed but I was afraid to keep pulling on stuff.
The back doesn't fold at all. One side releases and will move a couple inches but the other side stays firm in place.
I indeed do have an '06.
Thanks for the threads. I'll go to work on it tomorrow and see if I can find the C latch and try to pry it up.
Also can the back be removed without the seat back folding down first? One of those threads made it sound like the seat back had to be folded down to remove the back.
I went out and tried it again today and got the back cover off and found the c latch that the handle operates. This is a completely different latch than the one that holds the seat down. It had a bolt with a square hole in it that stuck through the seat brace that had a square hole in it. I tried using a socket wrench but even the 1/4" drive wrench was to big. I grabbed a flat screw driver that was just narrow enough to fit diagonal in the square and gave it a turn and pulled the handle at the same time. Presto! It folded and tumbled. I'll post some pics in just a minute showing where all of this is and how I did it.
Alright here's pictures of the latch I turned to release the back.
This is where you look. Just pull the back of the seat up and pull the fabric wrapping around from the side of the seat to reveal the latch.
This is the square hole you need to put the screwdriver in. Its just smaller than a 1/4" drive on a ratchet wrench.
