Tires? What is the best in your opinion

I'm currently running 33x12.50x15 Baja Claw Radials by Mickey Thompson. I'm going to down grade to a 33x10.50 for a better ride. Personally I want a deep all-terrain tire with Kevlar. I'm clueless as what to get. Give me all the knowledge you guys have and post some pics to make this thread more interesting. Thanks guys! All input will be appreciated. :thumb:

I love my goodyear mtr's w/ kevlar. Nice riding tire and not too loud on the road but great offroad traction

Dougzin 02-17-2013 12:59 AM

i also have nothing but good reviews on the MTR's. Here are my 35-12.50-15's. you can see the tread pattern a bit better.

Not enough tires in 33x10.5, I can't find any of the tires I want in that size. BFG's are about the closest to fitting your described needs that I've seen in that size.

PStov98TJ 02-17-2013 01:14 AM

Oh sorry didn't see you wanted the 33x10.50's

CountryBoyJeep 02-17-2013 06:37 AM

It doesnt matter what tires you guys post 33x10.50 is what I was looking at though. I can use them in the closest equivalent; metric or standard.

IMO for what you are looking for thee only choice is the BFGs....I ran 3 sets on my TJ.....and never an issue.

But last OCT I went to The Duratracs in 33"s x12.5" x 15"s...and as good as the BFGs were, the Goodyears are that much better!! Don't get me wrong I liked the BFGs but I heard so much good about these Goodyears for so long I had to try em.

Now I am also aware of a "weak" sidewall but no issues yet.....the other concern is wear and balancing so far so good but it has only been about 6 months.

But again I think the BFGs are where you want to be!!

Another option is 255x85x16. Maxxis Bighorns, Toyo MTs, and BFG KM2 are made in this size. None of these tires are made with Kevlar.

Gold Miner 02-17-2013 07:12 AM

Maxxis Bighorns gave me death wobble long before they should have.
KM2's have been the best tires I've run so far... much more quiet on the hwy too.

aparke4 02-17-2013 07:28 AM

Km2 1050 are awesome- best mud tire in that side.

eugenesonrisa 02-17-2013 08:00 AM

They make the general grabber "red letter" in that size too. I was thinking about it but I like to go skiing a lot so I'm staying with the BFG TA/KO in the 33x10.5 size.

TOYO Open Country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dextreme 02-17-2013 09:42 AM

I have Toyo Open Countrys on another vehicle. Two of the tire were made in China and they leak air. Horrible tires!

Duratrac

CountryBoyJeep 02-21-2013 03:12 PM

Alright thanks guys, I'm gunna see what my uncle charlie says. Hes owns the local mechanic shop.

Jerry Bransford 02-21-2013 03:23 PM

If you wheel where there are any sharp rocks, it'd be very tough to beat the kevlar-reinforced Goodyear MT/R. I'm on my third set of them for my desert/rockcrawling needs and couldn't be happier with how they hold up, stick to the terrain, and withstand being cut. My old BFG MTs had very cut and puncture-prone sidewalls.

Godric 02-21-2013 07:00 PM

I just replaced my toyo open country with duratrac...the difference is mindblowing in road noise and snow traction

budke 02-21-2013 07:05 PM

For a more street friendly tire with good offroad abilities, go with duratracs. I have 'em in 33x12.5s and love 'em. But next tire I go to will be 35x10.5 km2's. Skinnier tires do better in mud and snow. I live in florida and play in a lot of mud, but will be moving to colorado in the coming year so I want to be prepared for the snow and slush.

What kind of mileage can an MT-R get on a wrangler? I am currently on BFG A/T's 33x 12.5x15
Thank you!!
