TJ 2.4 Suggestions
 
So I've got the Jeep inspected and in the garage.

My initial interest is in increasing the fuel economy and low to mid power. I don't find any aftermarket cat-back exhausts.

Please suggest the most efficient:

1.) Intake modification (I have one suggestion on this already)
2.) Muffler and preformed pipe
3.) Upgrade to stock headlights
4.) Best plugs and wires

Thanks in advance for the ideas.

just save the money you plan on spending to help on fuel economy and stick it in the fuel tank besides regearing from larger tires not much will help with the milage

If you find an easy or cheap way to increase fuel economy and low to mid power, PM me please. Together, we'll become billionaires selling that to the world's auto industries. :p

1.) intake modification -- cold air intake- increases the mpg a little , quicker throttle response, little power out of it.

2.)Muffler and preformed pipe -- catback exhaust, headers, highflow cat- little power gain, gas millage gets a little better. for me 3rd gear has some more balls to it.

3.)Headlights -- many different kits out there, i suggest getting a housing with replaceable bulbs. such as delta and ipf have out.

Well, obviously there is no magic bullet. What I don't want to do is waste money. What I have learned, through working on my other car, is that different engines respond very differently to commonly available modifications.

Possibly of interest, I added an Apexi Versa Cruise grounding kit to my Corolla and, according to my local dynojet averaging three pulls, I added about 3 ft/lbs torque and 3 hp to a low-torque high rpm engine.

Now, clearly the 2.4 is a different engine and doesn't redline at 8200 rpms. It is, however a fairly high-compression engine. The dyno charts I've seen for intakes show a dip in power in the mid-band. That's not acceptable to me. What I'm considering is a dry high-flow drop in filter for the stock box with a stainless exhaust—largely because rust is such an issue for me.

I've not yet seen any real evidence that the stock box is particularly restrictive, but that may not be the case.

Beyond that, thinner tires and possibly a more efficient ignition would be the end of this phase, before I start looking at the suspension, audio etc.

I'm looking up IPF now. Thanks for the tip.
