Show me your... trunks?

I'm debating on taking my backseat out, to have more storage since most of the time it's just me in the Jeep anyway. And I thought about fashioning a cover that would run up flush with the back and that had a lock on it, so that when I had the top off, no one could just reach in and grab my stuff and take off with it. I have seen a few on here that have something like that... If you could post a couple pictures, give me some ideas or tips it would greatly be appreciated. Material used, etc. Plywood is probably most popular, but if you found anything else that worked for you, well please share!

Thanks!

This is what I made. Just used some 2x4's and 1/2" plywood and some carpet. This worked out perfect for me. When the wife and I (no kids, 4 dogs) want to travel, we can pack our stuff underneath the shelf and the dogs can sleep on top. By far one of the best mods I've done to the jeep! Only thing I haven't done yet is "lock" it down. Right now it's just resting in place. Still trying to figure out the best way to lock it. Don't really want to drill holes in the tub for fasteners but I'm not really seeing any other options. Hopefully this will help you in your quest for backseat removal options! Keep us posted on what you decide to do!

I also decided to permanently remove my back seat since I never have passengers back there. I wanted a way to prevent my cargo from falling out while bouncing down a trail, and I wanted security as well.

I decided to go with a steel Tuffy security console:

This also gave me a great place to mount my spare tire.

That's some good stuff yall have... I'll have to see how much the Tuffy one is. Is it pretty much permanent, or is it fairly easy to take out if need be? I was thinking if I could cut out two pieces, hinge it in the middle and then have a cutout to go around the back roll bars and put locks on it behind the roll bars on like a barn door latch if that makes sense. I may draw it out, but that's one of the things I had in mind. Got my gears turning anyway! Thanks for the responses so far!

It all bolts in, which I suppose means it could be removed at any time. You do need to remove all the seat bracketry, but that's no big deal if you're looking to remove the back seat anyway.

Sounds like something to look into for sure. And no that wouldn't be a big deal at all! I appreciate it! :thumb:

I love the pet bed idea dmblair! I have had my Wrangler for over a year now, and have only had 1 time I had a third person in it. Might have to steal this idea.
