1" Body Mount lift
 
Looking around the forum for the answer to this question. I have a 98 all stock wrangler, i am having work done to repair rusted out body mounts on each side. I have to replace a number of the existing factory body mount spacers on each side. IF i wanted to replace all the body mounts and do a 1" lift, will i need to or should i have to do any other work to keep the jeep running correct? I've seen some claim, nothing else would need to be done and others say engine needs raised or tranny needs dropped by the same amount.

With a 1" body lift you'll either have to modify the stock fan shroud and drop the radiator (kits usually provide brackets for this) or install a 1 inch motor mount lift at the same time.

Benefits to the motor mount lift is that you'll be less likely to have driveline vibrations depending on your suspension lift height. Cons are that it can be a pain in the ass. In my opinion worth it if it can save you from spending the money on a Slip yoke elimnator/DC CV drive shaft when dealing with lower lift heights.

Why would you have to raise your enigne one inch if all you are doing is raising the body off the frame one inch. raising the body does not change any drivline angles since you are not raising the suspension. The brackets to move the radiator are included in most kits but I can't understand why the engine would need to be raised when everything attached to the frame stayes where it is except for the body. What am I missing?

You're right at a body lift doesn't affect the driveline. Motor mount lift isn't necessary, but is another route that you can do instead of relocating the radiator and modifying the fan shroud. It also comes with the added benefit of helping drive line angles. By raising the motor 1" the transfercase is tipped down reducing angles, making it less likely/fixing driveline vibrations that you acquired from a suspension lift.

The radiator is attached to the body of the jeep. The motor is attached to the Frame. If you raise the body 1", then either the radiator (or fan shroud) need to be lowered 1", or the motor needs to be raised 1".

When we installed 1" BL on my sons TJ we just drilled shroud holes 1" lower. Works fine. We also had to install tcase shifter drop bracket that was suppied with the kit.
