I put a K&N CAI on my 2006 4.0 engine. Now, when it is started cold, I get a lot of intake air noise through the filter assembly. As the engine warms up, the noise slowly goes away until it reaches normal levels. Any idea what is causing the additional air intake noise/roar? Is there a valve opening up that is allowing more air to flow when the engine is cold?

Thanks,

I appreciate the response, but that doesn't help. Can we get past the fact that I put on a CAI and figure out what causes the noise?

Thanks,

the intake itself doesn't dampen noise from the engine like the stock unit. that's the problem.

The extra noise is created by the IAC adjusting the idle air mixture for the cold engine. It's normal. The pintle retracts to bring in more air through the IAC's air passage to achieve fast idle. Like UnlimitedLJ04 says, the open filter element doesn't muffle the sound like the stock airbox does.
