NY Noob

Hi everyone!

Coming to you from Westchester, NY - I'm brand new to your forum and wanted to introduce myself.

I don't own a Wrangler just yet, but I plan to within the next 6 months to a year .. hoping .. dreaming .... praying ... It's something I've become slightly consumed by over the last few years, especially as the last year of my current lease has finally arrived. I must first admit that I don't know nearly as much as I'd like to - but I am more than interested, and my interests tend to quickly develop into (healthy :thumb: ) obsessions and/or hobbies.

I've started learning the trims first so I can make an educated decision come game time. And I've done a little reading up on the older models and Wrangler history, as well. I could use some help as to what to look for, though. If any of you are still reading :) , maybe you can pass down a story, some advice, a do, a don't, an opinion - or whatever you might think helpful. I would really appreciate it!

I am not going to be huge into intense off-roading right off the bat, if ever. I don't currently have the time or budget to do so, but as a recent college grad I've decided I should get myself a little gift and that gift will hopefully be a Wrangler for my next daily driver. Light trails and lots of messing around in the snow when no one else can drive are definitely part of the plan for me. All things in play, I'm really just looking forward to a car I will WANT to drive everyday and have a damn good time with.

I realize I don't need a Rubicon - though they are awesome - and I will want to keep my payments around or below $300 a month (Thinking approximately $8-$10,000 down payment, and I know I'll get at least a $1,000 credit if I go new for being in a current lease). I'm thinking Sport or Sahara, new, but open to used, too. Probably by the time I can buy I will only want a '12, '13, or '14.

So my real question is, what options do you all believe to be absolutely necessary in a newer or older model? Which are not necessary, but most often desired, most worth the money, not worth the money, easier/cheaper updated aftermarket, etc. I am looking for something comfortable, nice on the eyes, and a hell of a lot more fun than my current car; a base trim 5-speed Mazda3. :banghead:

Thanks in advance for any replies and help. I look forward to a good discussion here and plenty more on this forum!

-Dan

I'm in Westchester too!! I just bought my Jeep in November and sounds like you're buying it for similar reasons I did.. I bought a '12 Sahara, mostly because I wanted some of the added options like remote start, heated seats, ya know, the things that most people don't buy a Jeep for! Now that I've been on this forum for a while I'm starting to want to do some mods and take it off road, but I'll probably wait for summer!
