MOAB in March...Who's Coming?

Hey everyone!!

Me and some friends are going to be driving from NYC to Moab in march. Its going to be quite the excursion.

Your all invited.

We are probably going to take the southern most route, not sure exactly.

Anyone else going to be there between the 15th and 30th?

Anyone want to meet us on the way and wagon train it?

Silverton34 02-21-2013 01:30 PM

Now THAT is a long drive! I'm heading out there on the 28th.

Rancho 02-21-2013 02:31 PM

Just an FYI EJS is going on then. March 23-31. Great chance to see cool stuff out at the Arena from all the manufacturers/vendors out there.

I'm already there. It's cold. :whistling:

Moabite, the led and bumper combo on your truck was my computer's desktop for while. (weeks ago) I love the idea of a big lightbar in that spot.

ill message you when we get out there.

andysvette1 02-21-2013 06:17 PM

I will be there!!! Will you be passing though WI on your way?

devildog79 02-21-2013 06:49 PM

I will be there also.

Utahpete 02-21-2013 06:49 PM

I am here too
I will probably be at the arena parking vehicles or something similar
If you don't have accommodations yet, make them soon.

Pete

im not sure of the route, but somewhere between you and moab, there has to be a place where our dirctions will bring us. You can just start driving south earlier, and meet us, or if anyone is south, just drive north.

there will be plenty of "road trip" for everyone.

send me a message and Ill respond with our itinerary, and you can roll out with us.

also, just for fun, post your gear, lift, tires, armor.

I'll be there as well. I'm not going with accomodations..hotel or campground. Going back country myself.

Moabite, can you recommend anyplace within 30 miles for that? I've been but not superbly familiar with the area.

Not worried about the cold. Just had 8" dumped on me last night and still snowing and I don't mind cold weather camping.

I'm driving from Taos, NM to Salt Lake City for a conference March 21-23 and planned to drive through Moab area.

Had a few inches of snow at the house, but 17" at Taos Ski Valley just up the road. I went skiing for a bit this morning and passed 3 vehicles off the road on the way up. No Jeeps.

I'll be there for EJS.

I am driving through next Saturday (16th) on my way to Phoenix. I could not find a room for less then $150.00. There is a marathon going on that day. Ended up getting a room in Blanding. I hope to get back there in May or June for some 4x4 fun.

It's not cold anymore...well, it won't be by Safari time anyway. It actually hit 60 at my place a few days ago and is supposed to approach 70 by next weekend..hopefully hotter by the end of the month. And I live almost 2000 feet higher than Moab.

Utahpete, say hi if you see me while you're parking vehicles. Just look for the Billet jeep with the stupidly bright red D-Rings, big light bar on the bumper and the Sheriff's SAR decals on the side. I plan to be at the arena Friday. I've spent my share of time parking vehicles out there. SAR used to do the parking for the Boy Scout dinner. My favorite time was one year when we had several inches of snow during the parking duties. Now I just go out there to spend money at the vendor displays and drool on some of their vehicles. There will be a pretty blonde ridin' shotgun.

Rainynite...Back country camping has gotten extremely limited in recent years. The BLM likes people to use their facilities now. Before they started developing campgrounds along the river and elsewhere quite a few years ago, most of the beaches and backcountry camp spots were starting to smell pretty bad...and toilet paper was everywhere. It was downright gross. Most people did not seem to understand the "pack it in, pack it out" theory. If you are not in a developed campground, you stand a good chance of being awakened by a BLM Ranger. There are a LOT of them in town for the Safari. There are many great campsites along the river or in the Sand Flats area...all in "developed" campgrounds.

I have mixed feelings about all the development...but it was inevitable. I can pine for the "good ol' days" of 40 years ago when Moab was a sleepy little mining town, but it certainly is a lot easier to make a living here now.
