Soft option for front panels on Freedom Top

We've got a 2011 unlimited and looking to get a second and get rid of my truck. Since I'm the one who gets to park outside I'm wondering if there are any good (or any) options for a fold back or roll back soft top that only covers the front when the hard top panels are out. The panels are easy to take out but I'd like to have something easier/faster if I'm closing up every night.

Searched around and all I've seen is an emergency top which would be worse than just putting the panels back in every day.

Appreciate any direction or thoughts!

I haven't seen anything aftermarket like you described. A tarp might do the trick and then bungee it down, but putting the panels back in might be easier.

I'm not sure how much you are looking to spend but by me I can pick up a slightly used soft top for $350-700. You might enjoy a whole roof going down more. It doesn't take too long to put up either(no need for the windows). Plus if you got one with the sunrider option that would be perfect for you. It flips back and you have a sunroof then you flip it forward and latch it down and you're all sealed up

I have wondered about this exact thing for a while now. Seems like a good opportunity for a vendor. With the lift in my garage, getting the top off is no problem, but when the weather is iffy it would be nice to have something easier than the front panels. Not that they are hard to remove, but for a short trip it isn't worth the effort.

This is one of the reasons why I am looking for a good used soft top as well. I want the ease of flipping back the front section.

I'm confused, your looking for something "easier/faster" than the freedom tops? it can't take me more than one minute to put them on, but I don't use the hand screws anymore. They also work without the hardtop on if you have some weather roll in.

I use a bikini top for the summer that takes around five minutes at a casual pace from rolled up to installed.

This.

Most ppl stop using the screws In nicer weather. It's pretty much just as well sealed. Once the ice and snow melt I leave the screws out

thanks for the tips and idea.
I'll probably leave the screws out till I can just buy a soft top.

now to start thinking about a lift ;-)

Genius! I guess when you think about it, the hand screws are mostly for if you were to use the panels without the rest of the top. That's definitely the part that takes the longest. If you guys have left them out for the summer with no leaking issues, then I'll definitely be doing that!

I bought my 07 used and it didn't come with the hand screws. So, I've never used them and never had a leak!

jkjeeper06 02-27-2013 06:14 PM

No leaks with me either

soft top for Freedom Panels

That is exactly what I have been looking for too.
My 2008 unlimited is our "family vehicle" meaning our two Chow Chows go everywhere with us. So if the panels are out there is no place to store them in the vehicle - getting caught in the rain would be not much fun.

Oh how wrong you are...

“Soft top flair for a hard top vehicle.”

That’s how Bestop describes its latest Jeep top, the Sunrider JK for Hardtop. The idea behind the JK Sunrider is to replace the bulky freedom panels that come from the factory with something more easily removable. Once installed, the Sunrider can simply be unlatched and quickly folded back—even while sitting at a stop light.

According to Bestop, the Sunrider JK for Hardtop is an easy, bolt-in installation that provides a weathertight seal. It comes with your choice of vinyl or twill materials and is available for both two-door and four-door JKs.

I don't always swing the hammer of enlightenment, but when I do it's usually late and over-budget.

Not until Spring 2016

Happy JK 12-26-2015 01:44 PM

That's good, hope it doesn't cost much. It seems to me like the poor man's nx trektop pro (mixed hardtop and soft top)

It will work well for me since rain in Puerto Rico is very unpredictable, extremely easy to have open air, not have to worry about storing/chipping the freedom panels, and it can be a quick bikini top without the back part ot the hardtop (especially when I'm by myself).

I want one. Anybody know ball park price?

Please don't forget me since I am the one who got this thread going again, after no comments since 03-08-2014, 11:46 AM, when I commented that it had gone no where on 12-25-2015, 04:42 PM
and thank you chrenan for responding to my comment 12-25-2015, 05:10 PM

rollinrob 12-30-2015 01:19 AM

I see a purchase in my future.

n2mini 12-30-2015 09:10 AM

I like it but looks like it would catch alot of wind and be flapping/bouncing on the hardtop..

Happy JK 01-17-2016 10:49 PM

Any update on price?
