The chart below was accompanied by this paragraph:

"Jeep, Lincoln and Dodge ranked as the lowest brands in CRís take, which excluded Jaguar, Land Rover, Ram, Fiat and Porsche because the magazine didnít have enough reliability data from subscribers."

It's amazing to me that I see so many "experts" give the Jeep a lousy ranking for some obscure reason, but yet there are more Wranglers on the road than ever before. And everyone I talk to wants one.

Go figure, right?

Probably cause the avg mpg is so low.. Which experts seem to think matters more then anything else. I mean that's the only reason to buy a new vehicle right? So you can save 5$ each fill up.

good ole ratings...

parker65 02-26-2013 08:14 PM

It's partly because they think solid axles are old school, out of date and past their prime. If it doesn't have 4 wheel independent and a cadillac ride then it's bottom of the barrel crap according to most auto reviewers.

It's funny how can gmc, Chevy, Buick, Cadillac. Ford and Lincoln. Jeep Chrysler dodge. Be all ranked differently in dependability, WHEN THEY ALL ARE MADE WITH THE SAME PARTS AND IN THE SAME FACTORIES. People on yahoo are morons enough said. They are like the Fox News of the Internet scene

Casotakar1229 02-26-2013 08:48 PM

want and desire are completely different than what that ranking was probably based on. if the chart had been designed to graph the "top vehicle among consumers purely based off desire" then the jeep would have probably been higher ranked.

Just happy to see its not a jap that won best test score (I could care less about reliability in this case Mercedes are reliable enough) idk why jeep isn't higher on reliability tho. Their 3.5,3.7,3.8,4.7, 5.7, 6.1, and 6.4 engines are all super reliable. And need I mention the 4.0? The 3.6 hasn't been out long enough to see its reliability. Just a few ticks but that's not reliability, that was just a factory issue.

Bunch of metro-nancy-boys (and girls) at CR only care about statistics, gas mileage, aerodynamics, luggage capacity, etc., etc. And, they need to be sure that your vehicle helps reverse that mythical "anthropogenic global warming."

The idea that a vehicle could be fun, or might break something and have to be fixed (the horror of grease and bloody knuckles, oh no!) , is beyond their collective ability to understand.

CRs rating (with Forbes magazine) of the Wrangler as the worst car in America, is one of the main reasons I decided to go for it and buy a 2012. That same year, Motor trend gave the Wrangler their highest (5 star) raiting... go figure....

Schocker65 02-26-2013 09:16 PM

Let's all be thankful for this negative press. Just imagine if CR loved the Wrangler. If all the soccer moms and dads who put their trust in CR were to go out and buy a Wrangler, our arms would fall off from all the attempted (and unreturned) Jeep waves!

We already have enough soccer moms and dads driving Wranglers out there...:whistling:

My IFS in my ranger rides like a dump truck when compared to the unlimited rubi's ride!

This is why Fiat neutered the new Cherokee even more over the old Liberty. I think the JK redesign will get better mpg at the expense of capability. How much we will lose or how bad they mess up the styling on the redesign remains to be seen.....

Kinda "Splittin' hairs" there aren't ya??? There were 6 vehicles above 80 and 4 of them were "Japs" (your words).......the thing that pisses me off is that not one of these are from the "Big 3".....especially since 2 of the 3 only still exist today as a result of government bail outs.....twice in the case of Chrysler....remember Lee Iacocca in the 80's.......just sayin'

I had a Toyota before this (actually last two and my wife drives a rav4), I'm much happier with the jeep!

Another example of why standardize testing just doesn't work. Let's just take all the vehicles and put them in a pile, set-up some requirements, like gas mileage, comfort and price and rate them together. Doesn't work. Period. It's my biggest complaint about Consumer's Report too. There's a reason why Jeep, Ford and Chrysler, etc. are rated so low, they make large trucks. Example, let's take a popular pick-up and make it take the same standardized tests as a civic. Oh, the truck isn't as fuel efficient and it's not as comfortable. The truck *must* suck then.

This is like taking all fruits and vegetables and rating them on how well they provide vitamin C. Don't buy that apple! It has no vitamin C!!
