Bundy Hill Trip 3/16

Possibly heading to Bundy Hill Off Road Park on 3/16, departing Niles, MI @ approx 5:30 am & plan on heading back home when the park closes @ dusk. They also have rustic camp sites available in the park, so staying the night might even be an option.

Bundy Hill off road park is reopening for the 2013 summer on March 16th & I'm thinking about heading over there for the day & wanted to see if anyone else in southern Michigan or northern Indiana might be interested in joining me? If you have never heard of Bundy Hill Off Road Park, check it out online. It's located approx 13 miles west of Michigan International Speedway on US12 in Jerome, MI. I went there for the 1st time in January & it is well worth the 2 hour drive for me.

I am also interested in starting a group or a club here in Niles, MI if we can get enough people interested. I'm fairly new to this area & I am not aware of any clubs in this area, so why not start one? I recently purchased a 2010 Jeep Wrangler & have decided to get back into the off road world adventures, after a 21 year break. It is extremely important to me that all laws & rules are followed, to ensure this sport can continue to be available for future generations! There are plenty people in this world that love to go out of their way to take precious activities such as this away from law abiding citizens & I refuse to help them! I'm interested in a club that is geared to safe & responsible FAMILY fun. So if any of you are looking for the same thing & are willing to team up & commit to taking the steps to get something like this started, please get in touch with me. Or if any of you already belong to a club like this in the area & have room for more members, please get in touch.

Thank you for your time & I hope to see you on the trail!

Thank You very much for your offer! It is awesome that you offer your support! There seems to be a lot of awesome people that are members of this forum! I think it's important that we all take advantage of this amazing sport (past time or passion) & get out and enjoy and take care of this beautiful land we all share. We all get so caught up in life & slowly let go of our true loves & our true happiness.

I will do my best to get something going on down here, it's in the very early stages but it's very important to me, as I'm sure it is to many others as well. I still have not gotten any responses from any one that is interested, so I guess only time will tell.

Thank you again, I am very grateful for any input & your offer to help see this become a success.

Pfj18.... maybe set up some kind of area meet and greet when it gets a little warmer.....

jp2611 03-03-2013 05:34 PM

Was at a meet and greet yesterday for another club talking about going to Bundy...the biggest issue in our "area" (MI, IL, IN,) is the lack of "affordable" chances to go wheeling.

As far as the family activities, and support of non-profits, there are more involved in that in this area...if I include this Forum, there are 4 different small groups basically trying to do the same thing.

Some are XJs and WJs some are KJ's (the "Lost" Jeeps) and some are Wranglers, YJ TJ and JK..the "excluding because you are different" hurts all of us.

I don't have a "fix" just explaining some of what has been hurting this sport in this area IMO.

as for the 16th of March...I am out of that run maybe another in April or May?

Meet and greet is a little more "do-able" drove to Elkhart IN yesterday for one...Jeepers from IL and IN attended.

It looks like they are having an event the 17th. Maybe that is a better day.. I know I can't make the 16th but will probably be out there the 17th.

Im glad people are starting some groups to Bundy, its most certainly worth the trip. Im leaning more towards May time for me, as I want to get a little group going as well, and it will be a little nicer by then. A meet and greet would be good around this time, so by May were all ready to go on some trips, that place is a blast with a group!

PFJ18 03-06-2013 08:07 PM

A meet & greet sounds good to me. I'm usually available most weekends & don't have much going on in my life. So I wanted to ask all of you if you would like to each recommend a date, time & place, then we can figure out what works for everyone. Or I can just set up a date & time but might need a little help on a location that will work for everyone, since I'm not as familiar with the area as everyone else.

Thank you all for your reply's & interest!

jp2611... Did you go to the Jeep Jam in Fort Wayne last fall? We came down for that, I had a great time. I wish there were more events that support disabled veterans around here!!

I have been to every JEEP Jam since they started having them......5 or 6 years ago....and the first one was actually the first date for my wife and I....as for the DAVs one of the local Jeep clubs down here has a lot of Vets in the club.

I had just heard about the Jeep Jam about 3 weeks before last years was held but I was able to make it down there for it. I had a great time, it looked really awesome to see all of those Jeep's lined up in the parking lot that morning.

Yeah the 30 mile ride/ parade with Police escort is Kinda neat also.....good dealer to work with bought my '12JK there and the '13 300...also one of the few dealers that will tell you when to go "aftermarket" rather OEM based on price and availability.

Wish I could but I am out this trip....both Jeeps need tags, and just purchased the new NX top have to wait for better funds and warmer weather!!

PFJ18 03-14-2013 11:33 PM

Great, I still plan on going. My friend that was going to ride with me had to back out so I'm going as a loner. I'll be in a 2010 gray JK with a black soft top & black & aluminum fuel rims. My flag will be mounted to the driver side mirror.

There website says they will have prizes out on the trails saturday and sunday if you find the pot if gold you get a $100. It should be a great time as always.

Is anyone leaving from the Niles area?

For those that couldn't make it out this weekend, we will set up a met & greet sometime in the next month or so & plan another trip, that everyone can go on.

Thanks for the responses!

Brad48178 03-15-2013 09:12 AM

PFJ18 03-16-2013 08:55 AM

I don't know how it is even possible but I was out there from 9am until they closed and I can't recall ever seeing your Jeep. That sucks, I wish we could have hits some trails together.

Hopefully we can get a bigger group together & meet out there again after it warms up some.

Were you still out there when that Wrangler slid off into the pond in Devil's hole? I think it happened around 5:30.

I have some photos & video that I took with my phone from up above on the main trail, so the quality isn't that great. but I will try to post them.

I never thought they were going to be able to get this guy out, I thought for sure that Jeep was never going to be seen again!

Here are some other photos from opening day at Bundy Hill.

Brad48178 03-17-2013 02:59 PM

I think I left around 3:30 so I missed the jeep in the pond. I went in there but I stayed away from the pond. We'll defiantly get together next time. It's always fun when you get a big group together. I just got pulled out of a hole over by buck lake.

Here are some photos of that Jeep in Devil's Hole. After I get the videos edited, I will put them up.

Brad48178 03-17-2013 03:46 PM

Wow they had to break out the big truck to get him out.

PFJ18 03-17-2013 04:32 PM

Yep, that truck was busy from around 5:30 till they closed. I went out to help with one rescue just after 8pm, way back on the mild to wild trail in the dark. That was interesting!! We ended up only getting one of the guys out & the other guy had to leave his Cherokee out on the trail.

Brad48178 03-17-2013 06:29 PM

I believe it. It was getting pretty churned up when I left.

PFJ18 03-18-2013 09:51 PM

jp2611 has some intel, that a group from northen IN is headed to Bundy Hill April 20th.

What about it JEEPERS? Do any of you want to hit Bundy Hill on April 20th?
