best shocks for the price
 
the lift kit i want to buy does not include shocks. what is a good shock for mostly street driving and occasional mud womping? and when is a dropped pitman arm required? if a lift comes with adjustable upper control arms, does i need a cv driveshaft?

check out the Doetsch-shocks.com the DT 3000 or prerunner 8000 are nice bang for your buck

ive ran them in the past with great results.

A drop pitman arm is only needed if your lift utilizes a drop front trac bar bracket. Also if your suspension comes with adustable uppers you don't necessarily need a new driveshaft, but in order to install a new CV Driveshaft you will need adjustable uppers so you can locate your pinion angle.

The three shocks that I've had the best luck with are the ProComp MX6, Rancho RS9000, and Rubicon Express Monotube. Of all the ProComps work the best. A drop pitman arm is needed when your life exceeds a function geometery of your steering system. Basically, the higher your lift, the more of an angle your drag link will be at. You can get away with about 4" of lift before needing the drop pitman arm. Beware though, the stock one can be a pain in the butt to get off if you decide to replace it.

With adjustable UCA's, you do not need CV driveshaft. The only time you need to change to a CV driveshaft is when you install a Slip Yoke Eliminator. And that really only needs to be installed if you go above 4" of lift. The UCA's will help you adjust your pinion angle after the install and LCA's will help you move the axle back if you need to after the lift.

If you're planning on going with any lift under 4", you will be fine with stock pitman arm, UCA's, and driveshaft.

skyjacker hydros (NOT nitros) have a nice soft ride and are pretty cheap, and have held up to the beating i dish to them
