shocks recommendation
Ive got a 1984 cj7 with 3 1/2 rough country lift. Riding on 35's and needing new shocks because of a rough ride. Really stiff and want it to ride softer. Any suggestions?

Don't buy Rancho . rough ride let some air out of your tires. bet you got to much in them. It's not a 1 ton truck!

I did that last night is still rides pretty rough. get to buy some need new shocks and see if a ride better that's what a budduy told me to do

I ran Rancho 9000 adjustables on my CJ.
Loved 'em.
I ran them a "0" offroad, made for a smoother ride than a stock TJ.
I ran them at 3 on road.

I also ran a 2.5" Skyjacker Softride kit. This combination worked great.
A much smoother ride than the rough country springs.
You may not see all of the benefit of the Rancho adjustable shocks if your springs are too stiff.

I just went to buy the ranchos lynn and it says for 0-2.5" lifts only. Would it be ok for my 3.5"?

On my CJ I ran #9116 in the front
14.79" compressed, 24.4" extended

Rear #9165
13.85" compressed, 22.87" extended

These were old 9000 adjustables. I don't think they make them anymore, you have to buy 9000XLs, with different part numbers.

I selected the above because my rig was about in the middle of these ranges sitting on level concrete.

You should measure yours, then select a shock that gives you the appropriate up/down travel with the shock not being the limiting factor on compression or extension... or as close as possible to that.

Do you have appropriate bumpstops to limit compression?

If you run shocks designed for 2.5" lift on a 3.5" lift rig they will probably be OK on the street but offroad the shock will be the limiting factor in your down-travel, and extreme droop may damage the shocks.
