Steel in Tampa

Looking for a steel supply place around here. I want to be able to buy small quantities and more often than not, scrap pieces.
A good welding supply store would be great too.
Thanks guys.

I live in Riverview and have had the same problem. Everybody wants you to buy in full sheets or roll stock. The only place i found to sell by the pound and in small or scrap lots is Alro Metals Plus. BUT only at their Sarasota/Bradenton site. Their number is 813 952 1918.

Thanks for the info. It really sucks when all I need is a small amount to make a bracket and such and they want me to buy a full sheet.

Yup, worse is HD or Big blue. They treat steel like gold and you have no idea what grade or alloy. Not sure I'd use their stuff for anything other than "decoration"

I have used their steel for projects that are not structural in nature. I don't think I can trust it enough to reinforce my track bar bracket on the axle.

There's an Alro Metals on 49th Street, just off Ulmerton in Clearwater that sells any size material you want and will cut as well.

Now that's good news. When you say they cut, is it cut to spec? Like it I have a few shapes to make a bumper they would cut them?

Probably depends on what you are trying to do. They are basically set up to make 90 degree cuts on things - i.e. - you need a piece of 1/4" x 4" x 4' long, but they will cut to exact lengths. If you are trying to cut multiple angles/etc., I don't know if they are able/willing to do that. It does cost $3/cut. I've never had them do anything other than cut to length for transport as I have bandsaws, plasma cutter, torch, etc. to do all my own cutting.

They have a wide selection of hot-rolled/cold rolled, aluminum, stainless etc. in channel, Box, round, strip, etc. They have both "new" metal as well as "drops/pieces" which are less costly. Everything is pretty much $/lb pricing.

Got it. Even that is good enough for me. I don't have anything intricate in mind just yet.
