Peters Mill Run/Taskers Gap trip 3/30

If anyone wants to come along, I (and a few other Jeepers) will be hitting Peters Mill Run and Taskers Gap on Saturday 3/30. No time set yet, but will be figuring out details as it gets closer and I find out who wants to join.

SHYUperman 03-09-2013 09:56 AM

I'm down

Gladi8r 03-09-2013 10:44 AM

I'll be out of town for spring break...

paleh0rse 03-09-2013 10:56 AM

May be down.

mjf23 03-09-2013 10:57 AM

Count me in.

smileguy49 03-11-2013 08:19 AM

We may even have a few non-jeeps along with us. Should be a great time. As I said before, we can work out more info as it gets closer. Hope to see lots of new faces.

I am thinking of hitting it fairly early. I live local to Peters Mill Run, but there are a few coming from Northern VA so whenever works for the majority. If we can meet around 10am at the trailhead we should be able to have plenty of time to play and still have you back to NOVA by 5.

50/50 shot for me. I would like to go, but not promising anything.

10 works for me. Is the trailhead easy to find? I know the general location but haven't been before. Also, is a permit plus close by?

Out for Spring Break. Going to Colorado. Was gonna take the Jeep, but I've learned my kids don't have enough patience for that long a trip. Maybe next year shoot for Moab during spring break. Anyone up for that trip?

I'd like to do MOAB, but that's a very long trip for Spring Break. You'd spend minimum 4 days on the road round trip. Probably more unless you drove like crazy 16 hours a day.

I was figuring 3 days each way, with 9 days during spring break, that would give you 3 days to fool around.

One of those days would be spent just getting up the courage to go down lions back.

Yep, that would be reasonable travel time but I would want something closer to a week between the departure and return trip!

The trailhead is just outside of Edinburg, but if there are people who have never been we can meet at a gas station just off the edinburg exit where we can purchase our permits then drive to the trailhead together. The day pass is $5. 3 Day pass is $12. and a year pass is $30. The permits are per driver. If you are sharing driving time with someone else technically you are supposed to have a separate permit for them. I think the year pass is totally worth it even if you can only go a couple times. Also there is a group of people talking about helping to widen some of the ATV trails in the Taskers Gap complex to allow for OHV. If/when this happens $30 per year is an even better deal! :punk:

That would work for me. I want to pick up an annual permit for both the wife and I. This sounds like a good plan.

Anyone in NOVA want to car a van down. Meet at the rest stop in Manassas off 66?

I will be checking with the rangers office this week to find out if the annual permits are available yet. Back in January they were not yet available.

MTR 03-18-2013 02:34 PM

I'm in. Should be bringing a lightly modded JKU Sport.

smileguy49 03-18-2013 03:40 PM

What type of communication does everyone have? CB, Two-way radio, none?

CB and two-way radio. Winch and recovery gears well.

Also, on the carajeep, anyway you could go one more exit at Manassas/Sudley Road? We could meet in the parking lot by Wendy's. if we do the rest stop I have to go all the way to Centreville to double back. Sob, sob, whine, whine.

I'm flexible about the meet up point.

I have a cb, and 2 two way radios. Recovery gear (doubt we'll need it for taskers/Peters Mill). And a brand new viair 400p to help air everyone up.

Did you end up selling your other air compressor?

gyramax 03-19-2013 09:50 AM

Would be coming from Christiansburg. Is there a meet spot right off I-81? Never been to this trail before.

We will be meeting at a gas station right off I-81 exit 279. As it gets closer I will figure out which gas station we should meet at. Probably the Shell station. I will keep everyone posted. Should be a great time.
