rustoleum bedliner on rims?

would using spray on bed liner on rims throw off the balance of the tire? i used plasti dip as a test to see if i liked black rims and i want to make it more permanent.

Patrick H 03-10-2013 09:39 PM

Nope. I'd bet the bed coating is lighter and more even than the Plasti Dip

Can u post pics after u do it if undo it soon, just plasti dip my rims and was thinking more permant to

same here, mine have been plastidipped for a few months and I want something permanent and with a shine to it.

Doesn't throw off he balance at all.

Here's mine with the bedline.

What sort of prep did you do to the wheels? Just clean them real good or some kind of primer. I love the look of black rims but my wife doesn't like the cost, LOL. This could be a good compromise.

Degreased the wheel. Used frog tape on rivets. (PIA, but was worth it in the end). Roughly scratched with sand paper. Then spray away.

after spraying. and pulling the tape off.

What do you guys put on the tire itself to prevent the overspray? I'm thinking you don't dismount them? I already have black steelies, but they're shiny, and I want the flat look.

_plaisance 03-12-2013 01:10 PM

Btw the paint was wet

00TJSport 03-12-2013 01:43 PM

Cool. That's easy enough. Thanks.

_plaisance 03-12-2013 02:27 PM

Just make sure you sand down the rim to make the bedliner stick

Pesty15 03-12-2013 02:36 PM

It threw off the balance on mine something terrible. They still don't feel quite right, but I do love the way they look.

MLaborde 03-12-2013 02:59 PM

I've been looking at black wheels for 2 years but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Thse Jeeps in this thread look great!

Does anyone know for sure if the bedliner would stick to chrome (yeah, that's why I want black)? Mine are in terrible shape. Also, how well do they clean up? My Rhino-lined tub cleans up pretty good but always seems to look dusty as soon as it dries when I wash it out.

_plaisance 03-12-2013 03:45 PM

Pressure wash then wet n black them

With the deck of cards or index cards being used, how do you spray the lip of the wheel? Are you taping the cards down? I'm talking the outside lip of the wheel.

No let some air out and put the cards between the rim and tire and air it back up

MLaborde 03-12-2013 10:05 PM

What kinds of spray liner is everyone using?
