GA resident buy out of state

I'm looking to buy my first Wrangler. Just wondering if any GA residents have bought a vehicle out of state since the new ad valorem tax laws went into affect? If so, did you have to pay tax in the neighboring state then pay the 6.5% ad valorem when you bought your tag?

You pay it when you get your tag.

You do have to pay the TAVT when you title the car in ga. And sales tax in the state if that's what they are doing. The old bday tax was a state thing so even if you pay sales tax in another state Ga. Does not receive any of that so they are not going to put that toward you TAVT tax. This alone would make me buy in state.

I bought a vehicle in Alabama last year. Titled in Ga. I paid all taxes at tag office when I got my tag. I had to remind the dealer when I got there and he had to redo the bill of sale to remove the tax....Maybe it changed recently. Just call tag office they will steer you right. BTW it saved me some $ doing it that way. Depends on your county's tax rate.

Vehicles purchased on or after March 1, 2013 and titled in this state will be exempt from sales and use tax and the annual ad valorem tax. Instead, these vehicles will be subject to a new, one-time title ad valorem tax that is based on the value of the vehicle.

In addition, if you purchase and title a vehicle in Georgia between January 1, 2012 and March 1, 2013, you may be eligible to opt-in to the new title ad valorem tax.

This is off the ga DMV website and really doesn't mention out of state.
