Pics of 295/70 Nitto Trail Grapplers on stock rims?
 
Does anyone run Nitto Trail Grapplers on their stock rims? My ideal set up would be Trail Grapplers on XD Addicts but I don't think I could justify that expense to my wife.

I have found a couple pics searching online but wanted to see if anyone was running this. Thanks!

You would have to buy wheel spacers for it to work. It wouldn't fit without them. 285's is the borderline width. At 285's you start barely rubbing and still benefit from spacers. Good hub centric wheel spacers like 1.5" Spidertrax will cost you around $200 which could have been used to the wheels you really want.

Have you thought about going down a size or two in wheel size? Tires and wheels are cheaper the smaller the wheel size. A set of 15" tires sometimes are so much cheaper then 17" that you can buy the wheels.

I actually ordered that exact set up today. I am looking around for pics of it now to see what it's going to look like.

Hey, thanks for the info on the spacers! The reason I specifically said the 295's is I saw someone with this set up and loved the way it looked. I will see if I can find a photo of it I saved, but it looked perfect to me. My personal preference of 17's over 15's is purely cosmetic.. I just like they way they look a lot more than 15's (not that 15's look bad). Bummer there is such a price difference.

^ I love the way these look.. The guy eventually ended up putting a lift which looked real nice.

I am planning on running these on my stock 18's. A little narrower and lighter than the 35x12.5's. figure less weight and drive may compensate the mileage loss

Can someone help me understand what the "75" number means in the tires description (285/75R17E1). I read it is the aspect ratio (width divided by the height) but can someone explain to me how a 285/70R17 tire would look different than a 285/75R17 tire?

I am trying to choose between the trail grapplers 295/70R17 and 285/70R17 or 285/75R17 and don't know why I should choose one over the other

^ Looking at tiredirect the price differences are:

285/70R17 - $300
285/75R17 - $340
295/75R17 - $306

Why such big diferences between the 285's? I will be putting these on stock 17" rims.

75 = .75 x the height of the tire. It is a ratio. In short, a "70" will be more narrow than a "75" but it will still be the same height.

This website (Tire size calculator) has a pretty sweet tire sizer. It will show you exactly what will change between your stock size and the new size you wish to go to. It will also show you expected reading of your speedometer. It would be advisable to reprogram your computer with any change in overall outer diameter.

Vader that looks real nice! thank you for posting up some pics. The only difference is I will be putting the tires on the 17" Stock rims with the sport rather than the 18" that come with your sahara.

I guess my mix up right now is how different aspect ratio's with look from one another.

I read on another thread... "Keep in mind that it isn't the "285" part that causes the fender rubbing issue. Its the "70" part. That number is what determines the sidewall height and therefore the overall diameter of the tire."

Aspect ratio, 75. The way of meandering the height of tire as compared to width. Ie.. 295/75-17, 295 mm wide section width(sidewall to sidewall) , bead to tread top is 75% of the width, so multiply that by 2, add your rim size(17") you have your overall height of tire.

It just go to www.tires.com and go to the info click on tire calculator and input your numbers and can even compare 2 sizes side by side

I apologize if I mislead anyone but I meant only that the wheels are stock. I have 1.5" Spidertrax spacers, Teraflex 1.5" performance leveling kit, Bilstein 5150 shocks and Bilstein steering stabilizer.

With the 295's, you need a small lift, IMO. I have absolutely no rubbing as a result of the width of the tire. I flexed it pretty hard last weekend and the rears rubbed once or twice, but I am positive it was the result of not having quite enough lift.

Couldn't be happier with the tires thus far. Minimal road noise, offroad capability fantastic, and the aesthetics are second to none.

I ordered a new JKU in Feb, picked it up on Mon. It is in the shop now getting a 2.5" lift, 17" XDAddicts and Terra TrailGrapplers 295/70/17. I pick it up this Friday. I will post pictures when I get it.

Today I added new 17" XDAddicts, Nitto Trail Grapplers and a 2.5" Pro Comp lift. I like it and can't wait to drive it, unfortunately I am out of town on business.

How wide is the stock 18" wheel. I have a JKU 12 with 17" and I believe they are 7.5" wide. So I was wondering how much ballooning out would that tire have coming out of the wheel.

I believe the 18" stock Sahara wheel is also 7.5" wide.

I have been searching and searching to figure out what tires to go with. Cost wise I know it makes the most sense to go with 15" alloys and 33" tires like "the combo" (mb72's or level 8's with GY duratracs) a lot of people are getting through discount tires direct. It seems I could get wheels AND tires for the price of getting tires alone for my stock 17's.

I read through the whole combo thread and the "15 alloys vs 15 steel" thread over on JK trying to convince myself to go that route but I just prefer the look of 33's on 17" stock wheels.

It comes down to Nitto Trail Grapplers or BFG KM2's on my stock 17's. I'm still leaning towards the nitto's. Eventually I will add a lift of 1.5 or 2 inches.

Can you guys give me your opinions on which size to go with between these?

295/70r17
285/75r17
285/70r17

I would need spacers for each of these right?

I got a couple of friends run Nitto Grapplers 35" on there lifted truck found they wore very bad for the price . I was thinking about buying a set for my JK instead I bought 295x70 17 Toyo MT very please with them not too much mud so far excellent in snow and quiet on the pavement wearing excellent 15k and look like the day I bought them.
