Flapping carpet while doorless

5 Attachment(s)
Drove around doorless at highway speeds on a windy Houston day today and noticed something annoying. I haven't seen anything posted about this on here so I came up with a simple solution.

The wind blew the carpet around and behind the rear doors out of position and they continued to flap open. Every time I stopped I had to tuck the carpet back in. You can see it in the following pic at the door entry and along the side of the rear cargo area where the hardtop screws go.

So I stopped by the marine section of Acadamy and bought a package of snap buttons. I think they're stainless.

I drilled three 1/8" holes on each side (driver/passenger) in areas I thought were the most problematic and installed these snaps. I took it for a spin on the freeway and they work great. I may install more in the rear cargo area if needed but so far all the carpet stays in place.

As you can see in the pic below the exposed snaps were chrome. After the pic was taken I painted them black with a little touch up brush from the auto parts store. Now they're barely visable and I can easily unsnap them if I ever need to take my carpet out.
The snap kit cost $16 at Acadamy

Nice. But when I read your thread title I thought you were having trouble with your hair piece. I was going to suggest a hat or Gorilla glue.

Nicely done. I may adopt this fix as well. Found out the hard way yesterday while driving on the highway with doors/top off and thought the carpet was going to fly out. They don't do a very good job of securing it. This snap fix would be great coming stock with new models.

I like this....we drove to go topless at the beach last month and same thing happened to me.

nice fix! i just removed all my carpet except the rear cargo area this week. i like the look of having more silver in the interior. i did keep the weather tech floor mats in place though. i used industrial strength velcro to keep the floor mat holders in place on the body to cover up the factory sound deadener on the floor.

there was a lot of moisture in the front carpets too, so it will help with "airing out" the front a bit.

i just need to find a way to make the wires in the rear quarter panels look nice now.
