Just looking for some opinions, next up on the list is a set of lockers. Here's my dilemma, can only do one at a time so... Which one first?
Front locker or rear?

Of course you can do 1 at a time me personally I would do the rears first, when i had my fj cruiser all it had was the rear lockers and it was enough to get me through whatever i threw at it.

How does it perform with having rears locked as far as say climbing up on boulders/steep slopes?

It seems like front drivers would steer better because you have both driving tires trying to pull that front end around? Or would the loss of the spider gear effect tend to make the front end go straight? But for sure rear lockers alone would tend to make it go straight with both wheels driving equally straight?
I dunno. I can't seem to get my Rubi to lock front only, so maybe Jeep knows something? Then again I've read on a different thread of a guy wheeling with just his fronts locked.

well think of it this way, you will always have 2 points of contact with the ground and 99.9 percent of the time 1 will be a rear tire

Your stock Rubi won't lock up just the front.
I've wheeled with folks running Cherokees with D35 and D30 axles with only the front locked up and have been impressed. It removes much of the risk of breaking the D35, and the folks wheeling that combo went every where my fully locked TJ went... granted not as easily, but they got through. This was rock crawling, and I doubt if mud running these rigs would fair as well.

Yeah, I'm stumped... I can't find a thread any where that points to a clear choice. There are arguments to both. Perhaps the best research will be studying the head or tails side of a quarter ;)

*** This is what you should do... Do the front locker first. The reason behind it is MOST Jeeps have a Posi Trac in the rear axle from the factory. If it does not you can do a little trick that I learned through the years and pull you E-Brake up half to 3/4 of the way and that will limit the slip of the rear while your front is still locked. This works perfect for everyone that I take with me on the trails that need less wheel spin.

Agreed with front lockers! JKS have break lock differential that will help you. Check and see what your jeep has. I have limited slip so I would definitely lock the front first!!

Update: opted for front locker first. Went with Lokka lockers out of Australia.
I have to say it made a world of difference. Same as an Aussie i believe, great product and cant say enough about the customer service. From Australia to Vegas it arrived in 3 days! I broke the pins and springs due to improper spacing, emailed him and he sent new ones free of charge and was there for my install via email every step of the way to insure proper install and testing.
I think i will be picking up a rear set for the 44.
Also if your worried about noise, none....

Cool. I had a locker of that type in the back of a ranger with a manual trans and it was a little rough on the street. I replaced it with a detroit locker at it wasn't much smoother. Full time lockers in the back of vehicles with manual trans are rough.

Mines auto, do you think it will ruin a daily driver, is it worth it to save the quadruple price of a selectable ie E-locker or cable/air.

The auto might make it smoother since there's no clutch.
