A flatlander in Moab

Just got back from Utah last week. While my wife and friends were cycling the Skinny tire festival, I decided to rent a Jeep and try my hand at some of the moderate trails in Arches National Park.
The Tower Arch Trail was rated as a moderate level 4 trail. I would have liked to try a more difficult trail but I was the only Jeep and by myself, so I figured since it was my first time on rocks, I probably shouldn't get in over my head. Thought I'd share some of the better pics. Did my best as driver and photographer. The scenery's a bit more interesting than Ocala.
Can't wait to get out there this fall for the Labor Day Jeep Festival and hit the trails with my Jeep.

Thanks Bob. I'll be driving my jeep out this summer to it's new home a little north of Salt Lake City. Moab only 4 1/2 hrs away, good for a long weekend trip. Lots of other wheeling opportunities out there.
Holler at me and we'll meet up if you get out that way.

tabber02 03-19-2013 09:53 AM

i sure will.. we need to get together on the trails down here soon! we're headed out on Sunday if you're interested....

Damn, this is my weekend to work. Keep me on the "A" list for next time!

Ha! Where exacly is BFE Utah!? There sure are some small one horse towns once you leave the northern Wasatch front. I'll be moved up to Ogden Sometime in July.
Beautiful scenery in the backcountry around Moab and Capitol Reef. Certainly a big change from flat, mud and soft sand we wheel in here in Fl.

I'm about 7 miles from a little town called Koosharem. S.Central Utah. Moab for me is "Just yonder". Nearest town with a walmart is Richfield about 35 miles *Not as the crow flies* west of me. Capitol Reef is about 45 minutes away for me to the east.

damndirtydog 03-19-2013 08:09 PM

Lol, you're right.....never heard of it. But I do know where Richfield is.
Cool maybe we can meet up and wheel some time in the near future.

You bet, email me. shipley4249@gmail.com
I do a lot of camping so I know most of the attractions. Which is weird around here, most of the locals *I'm from Texas* don't even go to the nearby national parks. Zion is my favorite for hiking.

Nice pics, got any more? That scenery is amazing!

Jeeping and hiking! Lol...like it or not you just made a friend! You're in the address book.:D

Iratedonnie: I'll post a few more tonight. It would have been nice to have had someone with me for action jeeping shots. Ha, as it was, I made shure the parking brake was firmly set when I got out to take some of the pics of the jeep. I could just envision it rolling down the hill as I was snapping pictures of it.

You da man! had the top down yesterday. It was 78 degrees. Got about 2 more months of top down doors off weather then the easy bake oven gets turned for about 6 months. I likes my A/C when it hits 92 degrees.
I'll have to look up those hikes.

Just a few more pics. Tower Arch was the destination.

I failed, it started raining and snowing so I painted fangs on the jeep and buffed it.

The two trails I enjoy are in Zion Natl Park. Angels Landing..5 miles rnd trip, 1640 foot climb. Take gloves, lots of water and fruit for sugar. Then the Narrows from the bottom..someday I'll do the subway for it from the top. Take ratty tennis shoes and a hiking stick plus whatever camping stuff you want, camel back is a must and any fluid containers you can blow up with air to float back down the deep parts.

Maybe we can join up and do one of those the fall when the temps get cooler. My wife and I love to hike and backpack.

Thanks for sharing !
Thought we were going to get to MOAB this year, but a new PCP SRT8 decided we were going to Hot August Nights / Barrett-Jackson. Oh well ...dare to dream !
