Gas mileage

I know this has been beat to death, but my TJ 4 cyl dropped to about 8.5 mpg and the check engine light was on. I ran by my local Auto Zone and they did a free diagnostic. I ended up spending about $105.00 for a new oxygen sensor, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. Two hours later the check engine light was off and I was getting about 18.5 mpg!

Way to go me! :punk:

Glad you got that 10 mpg jump. If the engine light was on, I'm guessing it was the oxygen sensor that was crapping out on ya!!

G-Force..... What lift and tires are you running?

jasonduke5 03-20-2013 09:36 AM

I wish i fot 18 in my TJ. i did wheb it was stock but with the 3 inch lift and 31s it dropped right to about 15. My is the 4 banger also

G-Force 03-20-2013 11:23 AM

I have a 2.5" lift with 31" X 11.5" all terrain tires filled to 50 psi. My upstream O2 sensor was bad and my plugs, rotor and cap were all truly in need of replacement. I did the wires for good measure.

I don't have a cold air intake and I have an aftermarket, but stock exhaust setup.

Really? that seems crazy high to me???

G-Force 03-20-2013 02:17 PM

They are rated to 55 psi. So I thought I would give it a try and harden them up a bit. I had been running them around 35 psi. Ride is rougher, but I think the harder tire drags less. I know they will wear faster, but I am due to replace these now anyway.

What pressure do you recommend?

Luck881 03-20-2013 05:02 PM

25-28ish...

Eddie2005unlimited 03-20-2013 05:19 PM

25 to 28ish what ?

pastorscott 03-20-2013 05:46 PM

I always run my tires at max pressure for max MPG.. yes 50PSI rides rougher but much better MPG no doubt :flowers:

I don't know who told you that but over inflated tires won't aid mpg.

must obey king obama!

and go by the tire pressure on your door jam, not the tire

I keep my 31's at 32psi. The guy at the oil change place pumped them to the rated 55 one time and I thought I was driving a basketball.

Why would you think anything but PSI?

25-28KPA would be a flat...
