3" lift/33inch tires VS 2" lift & 32" tires?
 
Situation: the wife really doesn't want me to go out of control with giant lift and tires on the 05 wrangler...I recently sold a silverado with 36's and 8" of lift-she WOULDN"T drive it.

I want to retain the "fun drivability" and prove to her a slight lift and some AT tires won't hurt the fun factor that she currently enjoys.

Sooo, I am looking at running 3" of lift or 2" of lift-I thought 2" setup would be more economical, but now I am not so sure. The 3" lift costs the same as a 2" spring lift, the tires don't cost much more(20.00per tire avg) and the weight between the two tires (BFgoodrich AT) is only 4lbs per tire....

Is their ANY REASON to go with 2" spring lift over 3"? Will a 3" lift and 33" tires retain the daily drivability? I have 3:73 gears D44 rear btw.....

Anyone married out there with a similar situation;)

I just did tube fenders and 1" body. I run 33s BFg ats. I love it. My old lady don't drive it cause she can't drive a standard. But she loves to ride and wants to learn to drive it.

Ya I tried to teach her one time but she got mad and said she wasn't going to with people around and the doors off hahahaha

bahahaha that's funny...so will a 2 or 3 inch spring lift and some blistein shocks keep the ride nice and comfy? opinions?

Go for the 3'' Lift, I had a 2''BB but upgraded to a 3''spring lift and bilsteins, good ride and also looks way much better, more clearence also.= for the 33's, but you will need more modifications for the 3''lift.

If your stuck on 3 inch do the 32 inch tire. I ran a 3 inch with 33's and rubbed the fenders off road. (I was properly bumpstoped) I added a inch body and all is well. Now I will also say that my wife did not noticed the extra inch, so that may be a option for you...

To retain a tiny bit of economy and power stay with 32". I recommend what I have 2" coil lift with 1.25" body lift and 32s.. Chances of vibes with 2" suspension lift is also smaller.

I say 3" with 33s. I about to add a 4" and run 35s. So I don't see why a 3" wouldn't fit 33s. And if they rub bad that's a great excuse to be like "babe I need new fenders so I don't destroy my new tires" it worked for me hahaha

I run a 3' and 33's, rides smooth! It does look a little close but I've never had an issue with rubbing or anything. Never had any problems off road either

The brand of lift and shocks is more important than 2" or 3". Get a set of Fox or Bilsteins with your choice of lift height. You might get vibes at 2" even. TJs are all different. A 1.25" body lift takes care of minor vibes in most cases.

Compare the selection of 32" tires to 33" tires. That's what I used to convince my wife that I HAD to lift more. She has since stopped bothering me about what I do to my Jeep.

I'm running around 3 inches of lift and 33s with the 3.73 d44 and it's fine but 4.10s would be better. If it was me, now I'm happy with the 33s but you said what would be more economical, if you're set on the 3 inch lift, go with 32s. Here is a pic with 32s then with 33s. And also, if you don't want a tcase drop like I've got, you're going to need a SYE/CV driveshaft plus the mods to go with it for it to actually work. Just my .02. I'm saving up for mine but it's a slow process!

A body lift has nothing to do with drive line angles or vibrations.

it seems the OME lifts are good. I am thinkinh about the 2" lift.

really leaning towards the old man emu 2" lift with some 32 11.50 R15 bf goodrich all terrain-haven't picked out the wheels yet...black...

Whoa.... deja vu... Wife, new lift, big truck issue (still have truck for haulin). Looking at fold up stools now to assist her in getting in. Jeep goes under the wrench Tues :eek:

If your only doing a bb, google 2" spacers and look for the best deal. A spacer is a spacer. Save a little extra and purchase quality shocks like ome, rancho 9000, or bilstiens for 0"-2" You'll be much happier in the end. (RE shocks were garbage IMHO, the ride was awful)

Thanks for the advice. Are most of the spaces out there polyurethane or some type of hardened rubber? If I place spacers in my factory suspension, so I also change the bump stops?

They are usually poly but can be other materials like aluminum. Yes, you'll need to add bumpstop.

Another option would be v8 ZJ springs in the front and 2" BB in the rear. I ran that for about a year before I went to 3".
