replacing my dana 35 4.10
Ok so I'm currently trying to figure out the best option for my 2004 wrangler se. No need for anything but a d35, but what I was wondering if anyone can help guide me on a decent place to find used rear ends for a decent price. Best price I can find so far is close to $1600. Is that normal or do I meed to loom elsewhere? Only perk of the $1600 rear end is that it comes with a 3yr warranty, but I still feel thats too expensive and I can find a better deal out there. Suggestions?

Do you only want to go new? Im not sure what prices are like where you are but around here people are selling good used complete axles for $250-$450. As long as the shafts arent bent and they havent been filled with water they should be good. Axles are pretty resiliant. Just out of curiousity why are you you replacing it?

Fun story, I was towing it on a dollie and somehow it locked up and absolutely tore it up. I have had it rebuilt twice and within a month after each build its gone back to the loud roar, so I'm a bit skeptical of rebuilds/anything without warranty. Im also not extremely tech savvy when it comes to vehicles. I just don't want to keep losing money and getting screwed over. I've already put over $1400 into it. I should've just replaced it initially haha

Are you finding these on Craigslist locally? I'm in central GA and can't find anything. I know there's someone selling one somewhere.. just can't find it

Sounds to me like you may have overheated the bearings. The problem with dollies is that when you are towing them you have the rear axle on an angle, therefore the pinion bearing is running dry at very high speed which heats it up and locks them on. I understand your need for a warranty, sounds like they might be setting backlash on the gears too tight if your getting a roar out of them. I use kijiji, which is the canadian version of craigslist. Ive always had good luck with rebuild kits but Im a Truck and Coach mechanic so I have all the knowhow to do stuff like that myself haha I see where your coming from though getting frustrated with it. All in all if you do go the brand new route yes your going to be $1000+ for a complete, but maybe take yours to a local trusted shop and get them to take a look at it. Might just need to be set up or have a new set of bearings put in it.

Well the first shop I took it to swapped bearings and ring and pinyon. It was a bust, the next shop swapped all of the above and spider gears? I believe. Not entirely sure, but I may just use Jasper transmissions and find a certified dealer for the warranty. I never thought about the angle running it dry. Thats would explain it smoking up like it did. We always wondered how it happened. It was a bad day to say the least. Oh well. Whats money compared to having a running Jeep?

My wife hates my Jeep cause it seems like half my paychecks go towards parts and upgrades haha. But she cant say anything now because I bought her one. If you do take it to a dealer they may find something was set with too tight of tolerances or something like that. Good luck!

Also the company thats gave me the estimate for $1600 was for refurbished w 3yr or 100,000 miles warranty. Whichever comes first. I'm not sure if that even includes labor and for the warranty to be valid you have to use a certified shop approved by them.

Ha alright thanks, ill just take it through all the trusted shops until I fond one with decent prices so on and so forth.

Typically you can find a used D35 for under $200. I gave mine away for free and it had 4.10s. I would suggest looking on craigslist.

I just bought a dana 35 on ebay for 500. It took me forever to find one i looked everywhere i looked on craigslist junkyards internet. Some junkyards had it but they wanted 900 and up and that for a dana 35. I dont know where people are looking that they say u can find it for 250-300. Look on ebay

Well I couldn't find one anywhere and after talking with shops the cheapest used was going to be around $1400-1500, so o went with a 3 year warranty from Jasper and am paying about $1700. Makes me a little sick ha
