New Headlights

-I'm thinking about getting new headlights cause we all know the stock ones are pretty lame. First of all any recommendations?
-I was looking for halogens but I looked on the stock ones and they say Wagner Halogen. Whats up with that?
-I found some pretty sweet headlights they're called projector headlights. They're in a black housing and come with H4 bulbs. I don't know anything about lighting so are these good? I found some similar ones, also black, but theyre called crystal headlights. Whats the difference? Theyre both only like 40 bucks and Im wondering if anyone has experience with them?
Thanks

It all depends on your budget. Most owners go with an H4 setup.

relatively inexpensive: Bosch housings ~$45, bulbs ~$10, RJM harness ~$70

more expensive: Cibie housings ~$170, Osram bulbs ~$35, RJM harness ~$70

They are 60/50w sealed beam halogens ... which are barely adequate.

I'm hooked on the black housing though they look sweet! Do you know if theyre at least better than stock? This is what I'm looking at: 97-01 Jeep Wrangler Projector Headlights - Black :: Wrangler :: Jeep :: Lighting - Projector Headlights :: Dash Z Racing

Oh ok thanks.

Another option: Susquehanna MotorSports - Auto Performance Product

This is a kit for the Hella E-code 7" H4 conversion kit. I would still recommend going with the RJM harness to get the best output. When it comes down to it, Cibie > Bosch > Hella > candle sticks > stock. The Hella lights are still very high quality. After talking with some people who have used both Cibie and Hella, most say the only difference is price. Having seen a TJ running with Cibie housings and compared, I would say there is definitely a better spread for light output by about three feet on either side at twenty-five feet out. Still, check out what others have to say... not just on the wrangler forums either. The 7" round H4 conversions are available for many cars/trucks/rigs.

That's not a very high bar. :)

No offense intended (honestly) but those look like something more appropriate for the ricer crowd. I would stick with the known quantities.

None of those cheap gimmick headlights are going to perform well.

Are you looking for lights you can see better with or lights that look "cool"?

If you want cheap and work really good, just get the Hellas and call it done. It's like $93 or something after shipping and comes with a standard H4 bulb from Susq at the link I posted. It's plug and play. If you want to upgrade later you have the housings already and can upgrade to a better harness. Still want to upgrade, you can then upgrade the bulb to a higher wattage. Seriously, any cheaper than that and you should just get some wagner sealed beam replacements and call it done.

They're sealed beams. They ARE the bulb.

See that shows how much I know about headlights.

UFOtestpilot 03-23-2013 11:38 PM

I would suggest that if you put any money into it for lighting, at least make it an improvement. If you don't need better lighting I don't understand the question at hand.
