Who is running a lift on stock rims???

Something about using the stock rims and just adding a little bit of rubber to them and spacing them out. Any one else out there running this way?

That is my plan too. I just installed a 2" lift. Eventually I will install 285 or 315 tires onto my stock rim, if they fit. But that's not going to happen until I need new tires anyways. Until then the 2" lift with stock tires will do just fine for me.

It's routine. Many do it.

Provided you use spacers, you can add as much tire and lift as you desire and/or budget allows.

Same here, just added a 3"lift and will upgrade tires once these wear out (probably have 5 to 10K left on them). I am debating new wheels mainly cause i think black would look better. Have time to decide but I have seen others with the stock 17" silver wheels and they look fine. Not sure I can justify the added expnse with my wife!

Just remember. Depending on the size you may need spacers.
The stock rims are narrow and a lot of people run a 12.5 tire. Most shops won't mount a 12.5 on a 7.5

That's exactly my dilemma too. I too like the black rims but I am not sure if I can justify throwing out perfectly good alloy rims and replace them with black ones. And plasti dipping will not work for me, because they will need to be retouched frequently.

Freakin awesome right there. Something about the older wheels. Simple but look great with big meats.

Any balancing/install issues? Techs give you any trouble ?

Don26 03-24-2013 11:15 AM

I have to admit they look pretty good. Maybe I will stick with the stock rims.

I know you really need the spacers for a 2.5" lift, but do you need any wheel spacers for a smaller lift, like a leveling kit? The good spacers like Spidertrax seem to cost half as much as cheaper wheels.

Shouldn't need spacers for a leveling kit. :thumb:

The spacers may be needed due to a combination of the wheel backspace and tire section width (SW) dimensions.

On my Cherokee the max section width tire you can mount on OEM wheels on the rear axle are 11.5" wide.

I don't know what the maximum tire size is on a JK using stock wheels... despite what a tire shop will or will not do.

Good question...

This photo came from a dealers ad. I was hoping someone would jump in and provide maximum specs on a JK.

Oh, if that's what you are looking for, check this thread:

Largest tire on stock JK? Here's your answer!

The short answer is 33x10 or 255/80/17, but as i'm sure you know, there is a lot more to it than just the numbers...

Well... That's pretty much all I need. No mystery, same stuff we do on the XJ.

Thanks!

I'm rocking a 1.5" leveling kit, 275/70/18 (33") Duratracs, and 1.5" SpiderTrax spacers on stock wheels on my 2013 Sahara.

I also attached a picture of my old 08, it had a TeraFlex 2.5" kit, SpiderTrax spacers, and 285/79/17's on stock wheels as well.
