Question about wire

I have a set of lights I am going to install and I have a question about the type of wire. I have a couple hundred feet of 18 gauge speaker wire available that is already paid for. Is the insulation on speaker wire thick enough for the load that 4 of these Flush Mount LED Bolt will pull? I am placing lights under the hood and for puddle lights. I just want to ask before I wire them up. The wire I have is like this GE 100' 18g Speaker Wire - Stranded-76497 at The Home Depot. I can buy other wire, but I already have this stuff. Thanks for your input.

There is no mechanical or electrical reason this will not work. It IS unconventional to use that type of wire in this type of application. Take your time and do a good job on your connections. Soldering would work best, but properly crimped/sealed butt splicing is a close second.

Beware the relay mongerers........

I am using an SPOD and just wanted to make sure that the speaker wire would be ok. I'd hate to buy more if this will work fine. I have used it for many car/truck stereo installs, but if I am going to solder all this in I just want to do it once. Thanks.

Hey Magic,

18G wire should be fine for those small lights. As in all installations, keep the wire run as short as possible. There will be less current loss and voltage drop.
