Tire sizes

I'm going to be putting a 3.5 inch lift on my 03 wrangler and I was wondering if got 30 in tires. Would it still look good? Or will the tires be to small?

SHADYDC 03-26-2013 11:11 AM

i wouldnt run that combo, be too small for me.

99wrangler99 03-26-2013 11:14 AM

Your tires would definitely look small. Go bigger if possible!

Do you like rollerskates?

eboff17 03-26-2013 12:29 PM

Okay I was just making sure because my big problem is that I have the 2.4 and I cannot find any tires that are 31 or 32x9.50 for a decent price. I'm trying to go as big as I can without losing to much power. I currently have 31x10.50 and I already have a hard time with my lack of power. I'm willing to go with the same width but you know skinny is better for traction.......any suggestions?

You cant solve lack of power by keeping small tires... it doesnt do you any good. If you are lifting, its to fit bigger tires (for more ground clearance) and more extension of the suspension. By going or staying with small tires, you really have no need for a lift in the first place. Gearing helps with the power change between tire sizes, but if you really are that in need of more power... perhaps sell the 4 for a 6 with the money you would have spent on tires/lift and then save up again for the lift and tires. Its your Jeep... but you gotta really examine what you are after and if you are going to be able to accomplish it with your current path.

My main focus with the lift is to get the ground clearance and suspension travel I'm not worried about getting huge tires on it. I'm just looking for tires that will still fill my wheel wells after the lift is on but not make me have to tac out second gear to make it up a hill without going to slow. And going narrower was just an idea to get better traction.

ground clearance only comes from tire size... not lift.
The lift is to accommodate the tire size to avoid rubbing on the body/frame/fenders. If your 30's dont rub or hit, then no reason for a new lift.

Personally I would go with as big of tires as you can find to fit your fenders if you already have the lift installed. Then I would attack the lack of power by gearing it correctly. Even a 4 banger with proper gearing can do some of the hardest stuff. You just need to have the rest of the setup in order to clear the obstacles.

My 31 do hit when Im on the trails at times that's why I bought the 2" suspension lift but I was looking around for off road parks near me and they all required atleast a 3" lift so I went out and bought pucks

CoreyZ 03-26-2013 01:12 PM

odd, most places ive been to say recommended tire sizes and not lifts (since I can get away with stock suspension and 35's since I trimmed my fenders and still have the same ground clearance as someone with 4" of lift.

eboff17 03-26-2013 01:13 PM

I've been thinking about re-gearing it but I havent really gotten into it too much to know what I'm gonna need or plan on doing

CoreyZ 03-26-2013 01:13 PM

What are you hitting with 31's? Fender? Pinch seam? Bump Stop?

eboff17 03-26-2013 01:16 PM

The places around me are all mainly deep mud pits and long trails. Not really any crawling. I think they just put the recommended lift so people don't get flooded or snuff their tail pipes

eboff17 03-26-2013 01:17 PM

My fender

CoreyZ 03-26-2013 01:20 PM

Can always try some flat fender flares if that is the only part it hits.

Mud would definitely be ground clearance and if you had 30's... your differential would be so low that it would be causing all sorts of problems in the ruts. Lift still isnt needed if all that matters is the exhaust/intake as a snorkel can solve that, and as long as the engine is running... exhaust is fine.

Thanks man ill see what I can do

CoreyZ 03-26-2013 01:34 PM

Good luck and honestly, keep us posted with how you turn out!

eboff17 03-26-2013 01:44 PM

Will do man

krisbman 03-26-2013 08:49 PM

Even 32's will look small with a 3.5" lift. Id run 33's if i were you. I run 33 12.50 15's with a 3.25 lift.

Went with the 2" lift and 31 10.50. I'm pretty happy with how she turned out
