What's in your 2" hitch receiver??

I'm seeing more and more 'accessories' for the 2" receiver. I suspect some creative folks have developed some unique things to mount in it. Rather than salt the discussion, I'll leave it totally open:

Besides trailer towing, what else does your 2" hitch receiver do for you?

Dextreme 03-26-2013 02:28 PM

Mostly this:
Receiver Tow Hook

I also use a Uriah rack to haul my critters:

I have a D-ring set up for emergency use.
Plan on a carrier like ^ has for bigger stuff.
Right now just an airbrushed skull 4th brake light.

It catches just about every rock on the trail. I swear I have more scrapes and bone-jarring hits on the trailer hitch than any other skid on my jeep.

Anybody mounting any tools or special equipment?

What about front receivers, anyone using those?

Tarby 03-27-2013 07:21 PM

Right now with the snow and salt, mine is packed with about a handful of grease to keep it from rusting inside.

There are clamps for trail repairs that you can buy, but I use mine for a rack when my sister needs her lawn mowed and for when my boss can't move his hay trailer in the snow I go up and help him. That's about all its good for.

i have a front reciever just because it was much easier to put one of those in than a rear on my yj. i also dont plan on towing anything, other than creeping a chipper down a hill, just using to hold a rack to take to the beach.

CarolinaBound 03-27-2013 11:26 PM

Same as dextreme, but mines a d-ring. 30ish at Q-tec

Being a relative newb.... which is "better" the tow hook or the D Ring?

CarolinaBound 03-29-2013 03:59 PM

Tow hook is quick and easy, but less secure to a point. For most recoveries if you're at the point where a hook isn't holding the strap, you're probably doing something wrong or are in way over your head. D ring 'locks' in the strap, but down the muck or in 30 degree water it sucks trying to slide the pin through there.

jkmohican 03-29-2013 05:11 PM

I'm thinking about putting a D-Ring in my hitch. Is the rear receiver hitch strong enough to handle recovery?

pinkrabitt 03-29-2013 05:36 PM

Mine holds my bike rack and the occasional trailer and car Dolly

BAP 03-30-2013 08:55 AM

mine is used for stuff like this

Hmmm, a dancer post right after a beaver post. Do I sense a thread of commonality here?

Couldn't you just take the ball off a normal trailer receiver and put a d ring on? It'd be sideways but why buy a separate hitch just for the d ring?
