Finally off the Jack Stands

Was able to steal away this weekend and do a bit of work on ye 'ol TJ and finally got it off the jackstands. The rear is just about complete (minus brakes, e-brake, exhaust, evap canister relocation, and a drive shaft). Been months in the making with a few hours here and there to work on stuffs, but tonite was actually able to put it back on its own 4 feet.

To recap, so far we have:
- full width 14 Bolt rear with 5.38's, Detroit, Moser Alloy's, and Ballistic Fab Diff cover
- custom 4-link suspension with johnny joints and 2" tubes
- 14" coil overs
- 41x14.5x17 Irok's
- Staun internal beadlocks
- ceramic beads for tire balancing
- comp cut
- rock rails
- full armor from front tire all the way back and around to include the tailgate
- led lights in the rear to keep it flush
- custom fuel filler neck (don't laugh, this one took lots of thought to get right)

Here's a few pics:
For reference, here's where we were:

Yes, yes, it tilts way forward right now, once the rear is complete I'll start on the front. No, I'm not going to drive it like "Bubba-Wheelin" as some of my buddies have called it :D

distortedtj 11-12-2008 01:31 AM

Looks good. Now on to the FRONT!!:punk::punk::punk:

1BLKJP 11-12-2008 01:32 AM

Lookin good my friend. What's in play for the front? HP60?

What is your wheelbase going to end up at wen it's all said and done?

rketr 11-12-2008 01:37 AM

Crap that reminded me! Also did a genright comp tank and a 6" stretch in the rear.

Shooting for a WB of 103" (to include a front stretch of 3").

Front will be D60 with 5.38's, Moser alloys, Ox, EMS Offroad hub disconnects, hydro assist, tubed fenders, led's, and 16" coilovers.

Hellz yeah! I'm just a little worried about them wheels getting a ding in them. :D Also... is your res held in there with zip ties?

distortedtj 11-12-2008 01:51 AM

zip ties = the new bailer twine

rketr 11-12-2008 07:37 AM

Zip Ties = 11th hour, exhausted, outta beer, and just wanna get the day over :D

(of course they are only temporary)

Looks good. That thing looks like its going to be tall though. Cant wait to see the front end progress. What do you plan on doing with the front? What year HP 60 are you running, assuming your running a ford and not some aftermarket center. How wide WMS to WMS?

GrnTJ 11-12-2008 10:07 AM

He will probably run a king pin 60 from a ford since its high pinion, '78-'79 Id guess. I believe the wms is about 65"-67" but cant remember for sure. Sweet build, its lookin good!

rketr 11-12-2008 10:11 AM

Actually the D60 is from a '94 Dodge Ram 2500. Not a HP or kingpin, but for $200 bux I couldn't pass it up!

4point 11-12-2008 11:08 AM

Wow, that is sweet! keep us posted. :punk:

ygohome 11-12-2008 03:53 PM

nice build :appl:

Scout 11-12-2008 04:21 PM

Super nice! That thing is going to be a beast when the front is complete.

rketr 11-12-2008 04:57 PM

(especially in a couple years when I finally convince the wife to let me drop a LS3 under it :punk:)

GrnTJ 11-12-2008 07:30 PM

My bad, for $200 Id deff. go that route too. Way better than the price you see on Ford 60's.

Optiskate 11-12-2008 10:48 PM

Thats a crazy deal on the front 60. I wish I could find one that cheap to go along with my 60 rear.

GrnTJ 11-13-2008 12:13 AM

Then you should live in MI, lol. I see so many good deals every single day here. I agree, its a pretty good deal but big axles go for super cheap all the time around here. Its a little rediculous really.

Sure it's going to be taller going from what looks like 35's to 41's. :D

Love to see the good builds my rketr. My 60 install has recently taken an interesting spin also. Guy now wants to trade me the stock width Currie Rock Jock for a 64" Dynatrac Trail Series. Oh the choices. :D With yours hell for the price I don't think you are going to notice much of a difference between ball joint and kingpin. Are you going to go full hydro or work with the stock setup awhile? That's the biggest thing I think I've seen between the two. Full hydro seems to wear out ball joints at a much faster rate than kingpins.

rketr 11-13-2008 11:36 AM

From what I've been told full hydro isn't legal here in TX (as far as being street worthy) so since one of the goals is keeping it streetable (yes, I want to drive it to my office :punk: ) I'm planning on doing a hydro assist.

To that, anybody have tips or links on howto?

mknight759 11-13-2008 11:42 AM

looks like you have started on something serious

ygohome 12-02-2008 06:41 PM

Nothing new. Burnt a few weekends in early November to get it that far. Wife requested I hold off thru the holidays. Spending the time right now getting my ducks in a row so I'll have all the right parts, measurements, etc. when I can get back under there (is taking forever since it is just me doin all the work).

Also completing my checklist spreadsheet to help ensure I don't miss anything. Will post the spreadsheet later if anybody is interested. It details everything and includes: suspension, body work, plumbing, axle work, electrical, etc (with related part numbers, etc from just about every vendor).

If anything it's been a fun project so far. I'm a computer guy by trade and have had to do massive amounts of learning to figure out everything from the cutting to the welding to the suspension geometry to freakin everything else

Will be nice when its done :D

87YJWrangler 12-08-2008 03:25 PM

Oh didnt see that its pretty bad ass set up dude
