Yep, It took like a minute and a half using the search function. A minute and a half I could have spent on someone with some manners.

Oh. Thank you by the way. Haha. I enjoyed looking at your posts.

Melvin 03-28-2013 11:20 AM

Patrick I also thought your mounts were done well.

mowrey96 03-28-2013 04:43 PM

Is that a 4' antenna?

That's a 3ft. It's strategically mounted so it clears my garage door by >< this much .;)

thanks

Melvin, is your future CB more for trail use or do you want to yak with the truckers & CB'rs too when you're out driving? I ask because that will have an effect on what antenna you can get away with or what might be required.

I would like it for both actually. Its fun listening to truckers and others on the road. Should I use upper and lower side band plus a 40 channel? I plan on being out in the woods alot too. Also I was thinking of using a wire whip antenna. What are your thoughts?

Jerry Bransford 03-28-2013 05:16 PM

SSB is hardly ever used on CB any more and you won't hear any offroaders using it. You only need a standard AM-only CB like 99.99% of them are. Only a few CB hobbiests still talk on CB using SSB (upper or lower sideband).

A 102" whip antenna works well but not that much better than shorter antennas. For normal offroad uses, you won't notice a difference. Not to mention that most 4x4 clubs and nearly all organized 4x4 events banned 102" whips long ago, with most limiting antenna heights to 48-52" or so.

I'm a long-term (50+ years) radio guy with big antennas for my HF ham radio at home but for my Jeep & my CB's offroad purpose, my 2' Firestik antenna works very well. As my Jeep got taller & my antenna mounting locations moved higher, I went from a 4' to a 3' and I've been using a 2' for about ten years now and it works well enough that I haven't even thought about going back to a taller antenna. :)

Makes sense. I also have what some folks call a foot warmer. So I may run that too. =)

Ooohhh don't tell me things like that. I'm not in favor of linear amps on CBs for several reasons. :)

Gotcha. Yeah all it takes in one dipshit on a foot warmer to ruin it for everyone around. haha

In my experience, all the guys running linears succeeded in doing was pissing everyone off.

I can agree with that. I do more listening then talking on the CB anyhow. If I was stranded somewhere I think the extra boost may come in handy.

The age of cell phones has changed that to a small extent for us around here, but we do have a lot of areas we go that don't have cell coverage. On the same token, the chances of finding someone on the CB in these areas is pretty much non existent.

Patrick H 03-28-2013 07:56 PM

Besides, even if you have the power to get out, you still need someone with enough power to reach back..;)

Looks like a (bent) Teraflex mount.

YjKalamity 03-28-2013 11:25 PM

I use a Teraflex tail light mount, took out my sub in the center console, removed that stupid plastic piece in it and mounted my cb in there. Wired it up to my fuse box and it was good to go.
