OK. I'm running a 91' 6cyl 3.07 a Dana 35C in the rear, which is now blown. Got 2 used axles from a 4cyl 4.10. The rear axle is simple swap out, so my question to someone more knowledgeable than myself is...which would be easier, changing the entire front axles OR just the inside gears?

If you swap out just the carriers and pinion gears you are going to have to set up the 4.10s in your old housing to make it right. I would swap out the entire axle assemblies that way you're not messin with the gears and shouldnt have any noise or wear problems. Other than the tie rods its the same as changing the rear end. New u bolts are a real good idea.:thumb::thumb:
Changing Gears: Fairly complex, advanced mechanical knowledge. Specialty tools, new bearings, and install kits needed.

Just change the whole thing.

Ya, that's what I thought. Thanks

Did you end up swapping the axles? If so, what do you think? Do you have an automatic or manual?

The rear is in. Ya I milked it, mostly because of the weather here in NH. Question though (because I'm such a green horn) can it be driven in 2 wheel without changing the front axle? Or is that NOT a good idea? Again...the rear is now a 4.10 and the front is 3.07 ratio.:doh:Oh and it's a manual Eddie.

From what read you can drive it as long as you don't use the 4wd. I'm a greenhorn too! 😄

you will be fine, but to be on the safe side you could just pull out the front driveshaft.

4:10's much better the 3.08's yes you can drive it around town in 2wd.
but don't put it in 4WD!

I've come to the conclusion that I can live with my 3.07s with my 4.0 A/T until I need to change them. I need a winch! 😊

3.07's don't cut it offroad. forget the winch run with a good Jeep club.

I've been off road several times. Did a little rock crawling too. In 4WD LOW it seemed unstoppable. I've read these Dana's are junk. I guess I'll just keep them until I can't. I guess it's a matter of opinion? I don't have a money tree out back. Looking into clubs around my area.

from what I've read and what I've been told by many so far is, that the 4.10 in a 4.0L 6 cyl is 'unstoppable'. I have already noticed a difference in the 2 wheel going down the roadway. Plus my speedometer is off now. Gotta get that figured out today sometime to see just how much it is off by, because there ain't no way i was doing 60mph through the city yesterday....:punk:

There must be a difference in the gearing between the manual vs auto transmission because the 3.07 aren't that bad in my auto 4.0L with 33s?
