Installing Metalcloak 3.5 lift today

Starting early this morning. Removed ACOSTA spacers and installing Metalcloak 3.5 lift. I plan on upgrading to the OME shocks and the rest of the control arms soon, but had to go cheaper for now.

That looks like the beginning of Death Wobble. Look at the worn area around the track bar bolt

Navydave was the catalyst that caused everyone to jump all over Amazon's price screw up on the Rugged Ridge XHD modular bumper.

It looks like he went with the stubby end caps for his. Looks good. :cool:

Okay, finally done. Managed to not piss off the wife in the process. lol....looks good, about 4 inches of lift overall. Drives sweet. I used the procal by AEV to recenter the steering wheel. Bought the synergy drag link flip kit with the track bar relocation bracket and an OME stabilizer. Had a little issue adjusting the upper control arms because the caster seemed to be different on either side. But I went with 5 degrees and just matched the other side.

Yes....that is the RR XHD bumper that we "stole" from Amazon...the rear is my own homemade, thousand man hour concoction using comp 4x4 HD hinge kit.

Love it.....much smoother than ACOS spacers with stock springs.....they suck with any type of extra weight added.

A little minor tweaking on the steering centering today after work commute. Track bar is good, axle is centered. Left off a washer from the OME stabiliser and it came off the bushing, leaving it free on one end waving in the breeze. Didn't feel any vibration or wobble without a steering stabilizer, so that mans my adjustments are good to go, right?

Does that mean you don't even need it? I don't have an aftermarket steering stabilizer and mine rides just fine.

A huge improvement between these JKs and my last LJ's steering design. I had a huge death wobble problem that I now understand was probably caused by my trackbar, but I had to replace my stabilizer every year......Ghetto!

The difference is the tie rod and drag link are now independent. The components are stronger as well.

Yeah, the upgrades for the TJs that I saw from teraflox were basically what you get stock on a JK. Good thing the engineers pay attention

Its says full bolt on kit so im planning on doing mine in the garage over the weekend also.
I was up in the air between rock krawler and metal cloak ..
Rock krawler required welding of rear bracket .

Stock Rubi wheels with spacers. Those are 35 x 12.50 R 17s. Wanted to keep the stock wheels.....I just like 'em

Yeah, home install. Just basic tools and a floor jack with a couple of jack stands. I did have to buy the Harbor Freight spring compressors, but they were only $20

Those were the two options that I was considering as well. I read the 27 page forum on one of the other sites where everyone was hitting Metalcloak with every conceivable question and it kind of helps me with my decision. I like the engineering geekery aspect to how they present their product.

The springs are very nice and I like that this kit seemed to focus on extreme rock crawling and on road comfort. I commute 90 miles a day on LA freeways, so this was of utmost importance to me.

I also heard that a 3" lift kit could sometimes net around 5" of lift. I didn't want to go this high because I'm not ready to upgrade driveshafts yet. I went with the exhaust spacer kit for now.

I haven't trimmed my wheel housing in the rear yet because very soon I will be buying the rest of the control arms that recenter the rear axle in the wheel opening.

Bumper...I always keep a bunch of stuff in my Amazon shopping cart. Well, the Rugged Ridge bumper was one of those items. It was on Amazon for $389 u til one day I happened to check my cart and got a notification that the price dropped to $200! I ordered it immediately and created thread on this forum letting everyone know about it and I think about 20 of us got in on the deal before they caught their mistake and raised the price back to $400.

Wow that's awesome. Do you have something set up that will notify you if something in your cart goes on sale? Or we're you just checking constantly?

@Navy - I have always liked the design philosophy at MC. I stumbled across that 27 page thread when doing some research - it inspired me to actually call them and discuss a few things. I think I'll swap springs first - I'll get around to shocks at some points, but I think I might do what you did and just get the adapter for the front and relocate the rears short term. I'll do the 2.5 - spoke with Will, it should net me around 3 1/4 with how I'm setup now. Interestingly, he said they use the same free length for both the 2.5 and the 3.5 coils.

The shock mounts changes will not give me more travel, but it'll give me more down travel and less up travel which is something of a win as well as more clearance at the back. At that point, it might be better to focus on a control arm pair here and there...we'll see. I'm sure I can just keep calling back as I go.

No, I just obsess and check it everyday. I have the scorpion aFe exhaust kit in there now. I look everyday to watch for price drops

I am with you....a little bit at a time keeps the wife off my six. I went with the 3.5 kit with only the adjustable upper front control arms. Shock adapters will do me fine for a while also....they were included in the kit. I will probably get the rear track bar first because the axle is off by 1/2", then the rear track bars to center the wheel in the opening, then the front lowers, then OME shocks.
