FJ hostility, lol

Lately this week I have been getting the strange feeling from local FJs. First incident maybe was misreading it but when I was leaving I noticed a FJ parked angled diagonally in a way to make it hard to open my door. (checked for door dings, none phew thanks Ace Rock Sliders).

And when driving lot of times I get FJ's cutting me off and then hightailing it. LOL, it doesn't bother me much since I am not paying for their gas.

Have you guys experienced anything like that? I am glad every time I get on my JK I know get off with a smile.

Thegame 03-31-2013 08:32 PM

It could be your custom plate tjzsuk!

stzd8 03-31-2013 08:53 PM

Good point, lol.

chucky cheese 04-01-2013 07:15 AM

Are there drivers in them? Or are they doing it on their own? The end may be near!

I wasn't aware that TJs could "hightail it" at all! I usually pass them putting along in the right lane :wavey:

RoadiJeff 04-01-2013 07:30 AM

Yeah, a 190 hp (or less) TJ "hightailing" it?

stzd8 04-01-2013 11:19 AM

Oh, I am sorry I meant FJs..... I should pay more attention when I am typing while talking to other people at same time. Sorry about the mess, not first time happening when I type.

legitposter 04-01-2013 11:31 AM

Yeah I get crap from FJ drivers at work. I mean come on, if I bought a frickin toyota to off road in I'd feel like an idiot as well.

kik 04-01-2013 11:32 AM

Usually if you leave them alone they'll go away.

stzd8 04-01-2013 11:52 AM

And funny thing, Jeepers are more friendly with everyone as far as I have seen.

ratchettt 04-01-2013 12:14 PM

We need to remember IMO,

all who drive off road vehicles share something great in common. I see the brand preference battles and pity parties clouding the field way too much. ORV adventures can be enjoyed in many vehicle types.

I am happy with my Jeep, but appreciate friendly rivalries with Land Rover and Toyota (I have owned both). Just saying the brotherhood is bigger than the brand, and it's too bad when some forget this and belittle the other guy as happened to you.

Agree 100% That's why I only carve compliments into their doors.

Eichster 04-01-2013 12:35 PM

Everybody know FJ stands for fake jeep! They are just wannabees.

HK_Runner 04-01-2013 12:43 PM

I have not had this physical thing happen, but I know a lot of cool Toyota drivers (mainly trucks and 4Runners) but the FJ guys may be a bit standoffish. I like FJs and Toyotas, but I have notice that FJ drivers (the offroaders) are sometimes a standoffish bunch, preferring to stick to themselves in some air of superiority, I suppose.

stzd8 04-01-2013 01:46 PM

I would had dismissed it as a random thing but when more coincidences come it only came to mind that were the FJ drivers that I noticed then.

As for me, I am happy with my ride and with who I am. No need to compete for attention here :thumb:

Like some people I had met, some give me compliments, others negative opinions. I respect them for their opinions but the ones that keep badgering me about how much gas, how much environment I affect with and etc, etc. I just tell then not to fuzz their blood pressure on it. Because is my ride not theirs so no need to stress.

The parking improperly I think could be fluke since lot ppl never park straight but the cutting me off is annoying. It could be dangerous on freeways speed people!!!

I had the pleasure to be at the east coast version of EJS at Rausch Creek this Saturday. About 130 FJ's amongst the Jeeps. They had their own meeting place and were in their own groups but were pretty cool for the most part. We both had to wait at times on the trails as various groups past each other but I was somewhat impressed with some of the trails they were doing. No hardcore rock climbing but some decent offcamber stuff and seemed to be handling it well. I also don't begrudge these guys for owning a toyota. Just not my choice of offroad vehicle but to each his own.

Stevezie 04-01-2013 02:37 PM

Truthfully, i can't understand the attitudes towards other offroaders, from either direction. Aren't we all enjoying the same thing? I don't go to car shows and only look at one car...I appreciate them all! Of course I have my preferences, but I don't bash the piss out of the other guy unless he's a douchebag...then it's about him, not his ride, right?
My favorite vehicle I've ever owned was my 74' FJ40 (totaled by a 20 year old kid in a new porsche...sucks)...I believe it's the coolest thing in the world...BUT, I've always loved Jeeps, too! Problem is, I can't daily Drive an old FJ and can't justify buying two trucks, so I'm excited to join the Jeep world!
The FJ guys call them 'Heeps' and the Jeep guys call them 'Fake Jeeps'...why? Maybe getting married and having kids has mellowed me out a bit, but, damn, most of it comes down to the driver and how much they've spent on mods!
Anyway, I'm new here and don't mean to offend anyone...:-)

You think FJs don't like you, tell people in this forum you bought your Wrangler to commute with and will never get it dirty and that you are chroming it.

Actually I would say I see more hostility towards FJs in this forum. I have never seen any FJ or any other 4x4 hostility on the street or trails.

Duckquackers 04-01-2013 02:42 PM

I have owned an FJ for about 4 months, I had to get rid of it because it was bulky and slightly clumsy. I appreciate my JKU and her abilities 100X more than my FJ but in the end it is your own opinion that matters.

Haha! yeah, good point...I couldn't imagine buying one of these and never going off road...it would be like buying an enduro just to ride on paved roads..

I don't have an FJ, but I have a standard cab Tacoma, which is pretty much the guts of the FJ. I think stock for stock, its offroad ability is pretty comparable to a Wrangler Sport. Its nimble, has a great low range, and lots of ground clearance. TRD package gives you the rear locker.

The IFS is probably the weak link in hardcore stuff compared to the Jeep. I can only hope my JK holds up like my Tacoma. I bought it new in '99 and the only thing I've replaced other than brakes, tires and battery is the starter. That wasn't even dead, it was just clicking on the first hit sometimes and didn't want it stranding my wife.

TrooperKhan 04-01-2013 03:37 PM

lol

tbh the old school land cruiser is pretty boss. So is the old FJ40

New FJ40 is for douchebags.

Thorshammer7 04-01-2013 04:47 PM

This thread reminds me of the ole metric vs. Harley Davidson insanity. I own a Tacoma TRD 4X4, damn strudy little truck but the Jeep is more my cup of tea. To each their own.

Just to clear it up (since this is a Jeep forum ;-) the FJ40 was a Land Crusier...the new FJ Cruiser isn't really a Land Cruiser...just a nod to it..I like them, but far from an FJ40....;-) Hell, if it's a cool looking capable rig, I like it...

Lucy Brown 04-01-2013 06:00 PM

I dont pay any attention to FJ's. They are all stock around here anyways. Dont think I've seen a modded FJ in these parts.

Blastek 04-01-2013 06:01 PM

This is a trap. This thread used to be about TJs.

Yup! I was thinking exactly the same thing.. and to be honest, I find it just as ANNOYING.

I think FJ's look badass, and being that its made by Toyota, I'm sure its built to last. I would love to have one, but not over my Wrangler. I've seen a few lifted with bigger tires and they are nice.

You guys are brand snobs. :)
