Quick exhaust question

Will increasing my exhaust piping size from the stock 2.25" to 2.5" after the muffler have any negative effects?
Or, will it change sound at all? Good or bad?

For my install of aftermarket, going to the larger size drove me nuts due to the sound. To me the larger diameter reminded me of those little wanna be sport racers...Honda's etc... Due to the short wheel base, and performance exhaust, I ended up installing a resonator too. This muffled the drone on the hwy, but left most of my performance intact...using banks headers and exhaust system.

The pipe diameter for that small amount is not going to have any affect on the sound. The muffler is responsible for that.

Well it did and does. If you know anything about the "mega phone effect," the difference in radiating sound is noticeable comparatively. And read " comparatively" as, unless you place one of those annoying devices on the end of your system to purposely sound like that, we normally go the opposite direction i.e. large (from collector) to smaller. Yes, the muffler has an affect, so does the converter, so does the design of the header, so, the question was answered based on my install of the "banks" exhaust system using the larger diameter system. I went back to OEM size pipping, which reduced the mega phone sound. Is it bad or good? Performance wise, didn't notice, sound wise, for me it sucked using the larger diameter.

The amount of chage in sound going from 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 for a cat back (or just the outlet tailpipe section) is minimal to none.
