Parker to Havasu Camping
Heading over to the Parker area this coming weekend to explore the area. Towing our jeep and looking for a good place to camp along the river. Any input on camp grounds? We have a small motor home. Any input for moderate trails for a jeep without lockers?

Thanks for any ideas.

Well I reserved a camp site at Buckskin Mountain state park. Looks like its close to the Desert Bar!

I'm still looking for a few trails to check out if anyone has any suggestions.

I'll finish this thread up then. Buckskin Mountain is a great camp site if you want easy access to 4wheel trails and the Colorado River this is it. A lot of the sites have lots of shade provided by large trees. But if you want to stay there you need to reserve your sites way ahead of time.

The trails: We decided that we'd go to the Desert Bar via the back trail. The trail head can't be more than a mile from the camping sites. That trail was pushing the limits on our pretty much stock YJ. I had one place that was right at the beginning that I could not clear but a friendly passer by winched me up over the first obstacle. I just could not get the wheels to the ground. Lockers would have been nice but then I would not be able to flat tow my YJ. That is the only place in the trail that I had trouble but most of the 5 plus mile trail consist of very rough and rocky sections all done in 4 wheel low. I think one of the things that help me through was I recently added an inertia ring to my flywheel. I think it saved my clutch anyway. It took us a little over two hours to make it to the bar but we stopped at a few of the mines and poked around a bit. There are several trails that split off of the main trail and you could spend days just exploring this area.

Best Part: The Desert Bar! Real COLD Beer!, Cheap but good burgers and a live band. Whoever decided to put a bar out in the middle of the desert was a Genus! Or at least I think so and the other 75-100 people that were there.

So a great time was had by my wife and I and we tested are recently rebuilt 4 cylinder which has about 600 miles on it now, and running strong. We actually will plan another quick trip over to the Parker area again in two to three weeks. I would imagine it gets hot early in the year and want to explore a bit more before it's too hot.

Also like to Thank the guy who winched me over the first section. Don't know his name but maybe he'll read this.

Any pics of the trail you were on, bar, or campsite?

Here are a few pics of the camp site and the view of the Colorado River, also shots of the trail but don't let that fool you, for my yj it was a tough trail. And then the Desert Bar. They were playing great old music like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and old Aerosmith. And again, they serve very cold beer.

It's just north of Parker a few miles. Took us in the MH towing the jeep about 3.5 hours to get there. We left Gilbert about three and were in our site before 7.
If you think about going, we walked the camp ground and got the good camps site #'s with lots of shade, grass, and view of the river if possible.

I just reserved to go back on the 26th-28th. We want to go one more time before it starts getting to hot.

Just googled it and it says River Island is ideal for tent campers.. Hhhmm

We checked out River Island it is a nice. Lot's of grass areas but hit or miss on trees for shade. Real close to the back trail to the bar.

Buckskin Mountain is more MHs and 5th Wheels. But there is an area that is right on the river set up for tent camping. Looks like it could get crowded though.

have fun if you go.

I think it may have to wait until next year. That bar is only open Saturday and Sunday and it closes down again at the end of April.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 12:09 AM.
