Good Bass Speaker & Box Dimensions

What is a good quality 10" Bass Speaker (Wattage) and box dimension for a 2003 Jeep Wrangler TJ. My husband and I just bought a Jeep and the owner kept the bass speaker. It has 2 amps, 1 for the bass and the other for the mids/highs. One of the front dash speakers is blown so i also would like info on good quality (watts) & price dash speakers and sound bar speakers :) Thanks

What is the brand and model# of the sub amp they left you? If you plan to keep that amp, you will want to match a sub to it.

I find that a single 300w (rms) 10" sub fills a Jeep and most smaller SUVs very well. More than enough low end without over doing it.

I personally run a JL Audio 10" sub in an enclosure/trunk I designed.

Thanks. I'll have to look at them on my lunch break and write back. There pretty big. He had a 10" sub in there before in a premade box. I really like JL Audio too. That's what I always got in my other cars. Can 5.25 fit in the dash ? I've read they can but i don't want to drill bigger holes. 4x6 just isn't very loud though, but i hardly can hear the fronts as is with the soundbar!

Ok. I got the information on the 2 Amps. One is a Alpine 4 channel power amplifier MRP-f550. The other is a Kenwood 1000W Maximum Power Subwoofer Power Amplifier Boost Control. He has 2 4x6 Polk momo in the dash and 2 5.25 Polk Momo in the sound bars. I attached photos to my original thread.

A 5.25 will not fit in the dash. Crutchfield.com is a good resource for info for wiring and fitiment.

As far as the sub goes, any decent quality sub and premade box will be fine, just have the guys you get the sub from make sure the box has the correct volume for the brand of sub you buy.

SpringRubiconTJ 04-03-2013 12:15 PM

As far as not being able to hear the fronts, either fade a bit to the front, or turn down the gain on the Alpine amp on the channels controlling the front.

Also make sure the front and soundbar speakers are on a crossover to eliminate the low frequency from them. This will allow you to turn them up a bit more and still be clear.

So what do you think would be good for the front dash? the Polk Momo's aren't bad sounding in the soundbar but i think i should replace them. Do you think they are good? What is your thoughts on the 10" Kicker subwoofer? I don't care for it to be really loud, but i do like some bump!

vwlos 04-03-2013 02:04 PM

Actually 5.25's WILL fit in the dash locations if you use brackets. NalinMFG makes a very good one. In addition, you can fit 6.5's in the sound bar (some will bolt right in & some may require a little modification).
I personally like Polk, especially the momo series. I'm currently running the 6.5 momo series in my sound pods & have been searching for a pair of the 5.25's for my dash...but it's hard to find them since they've been discontinued for several years now.
As far as a sub, you have several options. If you DO NOT have the driver's tilt&tumble front seat, Kicker makes a 8" slim mount sub with enclosure that will fit under the seat.

I just put kicker 6.5s in my sound pods and they sounds great. They only thing I can't figure out is how to seal it and stop the whistling cause by the new holes I had to drill

Bigchris66 04-03-2013 02:38 PM

The jeep jammer holds two tens and its made to fit behind your back seat it looks like it's coated in some kind of bed liner

Try using some clear silicone caulk

What is the model of the Kenwood amp? Ignore the '1000watts max' on the cover; it doesn't mean anything. You are looking to match the RMS wattage rating.

The speakers you have in the front are fine. They are not a 4x6, but a 4" separate.....4" woofer and separate tweeter mounted on the same plate that fits in a 4x6 location. You separately are generally more efficient than coaxial speakers and considering the small difference going up to a 5.25" coaxial, I don't see it worth swapping.
With that said, if you feel the desire to swap them out for some 5.25s on adapter plates, move the 5.25s from the soundbar to the dash, and swap in some matching Polk 6.5s for the soundbar.

You might check out the Pioneer TS-SWX251 10" sub and box. Made for the jeep. And amazon has it for $127. Great reviews on it.

Jeepin4Dogs 04-04-2013 11:29 AM

Thanks all

Awesome. Thanks everyone! Really good ideas! I'm not sure the model # TXST8tj. I will have to get that information for you. My husband tweeked with the amps lastnight for the front speakers and it actually sounds better now. A lot louder. Just need to get that sub. I live in a small town and the closest good audio stores are about an hour away. Kinda sucks. I'm an Amazon shopper though. So i'm sure I can find some on there. I'll definitely look into the Jeep Jammer Bigchris66, that sounds like a good idea. I also like the idea of the sub under the seat but that might get annoying after a while. My husband likes the Kicker brand and they have a 10" in a box that i think will fit in the back at Wal-Mart. I dont' know the wattage though. I just want a little boom Right now there is ZERO! haha. but thanks for all the information everyone. I really appreciate it. This Forum is great! I'm sure my husband will be on soon to ask questions. I told him I made this profile and he is more of a Jeep lover than me. We use to live in CO, he was born and raised, so we definitely miss it compared to FL. CO boulders are amazing with Jeeps!

TXST8tj 04-04-2013 12:13 PM

I would look to this guy for a sub enclosure.... Product Purchase Page
He makes them specific for Wranglers...how you want it, and the prices are reasonable.
You can get an enclosure for a single 10" sub and lockable storage in the same package.

03Ruth 04-04-2013 12:39 PM

The only thing that is a drawback to a sub behind the rear seat is that space is limited in a wrangler and with a box in the back you pretty much lose it all. I had a 10" sub in the back for a while but had to take it out everytime I went wheeling to have room for my recovery gear, tools, etc..
I ended up giving my sub and amp to a buddy of mine that I wheel with that has an xj with plenty of storage. Anyways here's a thread that I started for a sub in the center console. I haven't bought it yet (due to lack of funds) but will be doing this soon. If you have to have ear wax rattling bass then this isn't for you but I just wanted something to fill in the low end. And you get to keep your space behind the seat open for storage. Here's the link with a lot of good info...

Not entirely true. You can by the adapter from nalin mfg and fit 5.25's in for around $15. I opened up the center hole and squeezed 6.5s in :D

Jeepin4Dogs 04-05-2013 10:23 AM

I saw those center console subs. They look really cool. I'm not looking for a lot of bass either, just something to also fill the lows, all i have now is a lot of highs :) I'm so torn though because I don't really want the sub right by me, but i also don't want it in the trunk because of the bad rattle it will do, I will have to pad the door.
I also can't find the model#. The Amps are screwed in under the seat. I know the previous owner had a 10" in there though and he said it made a good amount of bass. if the amp is 1000 watts, what watts should i get for the sub? or do you have to know the input and output wattage? I haven't messed with stereo systems since my high school days almost 15 years ago so i'm very dusty with this again. I do want to get new 4" in the front dash. Those are just so small they are pointless, and I don't really like how all I can hear is the sound bar speakers, they r pretty loud. This weekend i'm going to open the dash up to see how the previous owner had the front speakers wired.
Any thoughts on the kick panel speakers? My husband was thinking about doing that instead of buying the 4x6's in the dash.

InvisiblePants 04-05-2013 11:41 AM

http://www.nalinmfg.com/

You can put 5.25s in the dash. Nalin makes a great bracket for them. It will do wonders for your front sound.

So i tried to find the model # for the Kenwood amp, and couldn't find it and didn't want to unscrew it from the seat, it's all wired in too. but I did see all the connectors on the side and this is what it all says:

There is a knob you can twist from Min 5 to Max .2 (called Input Sensitivity)
There is another knob you can twist from 50-200 (LPF Frequency) also there is a switch from Off to 15hz to 25hz (Infrasonic).
Those were the only three that had #'s on them. There were other plugs but they didn't have #'s, just input output for the speakers.
Also on the front of the Amp is the letter&numbering: KAC8151D

Is that enough info to figure out what it is?

I have the center console sub housing with a 6.5 Bose I scored on ebay for 20 bucks. Using the factory amp it sounds good. Thinking about adding a bigger amp to it though.
