Michigan jeepers, show me your top OFF!!

Alright people, we've been waiting for this weather, and its finally here. I want anyone from Michigan to post up pics of their tops or doors off!! We have it rough, we don't get to take our tops off in till April, and have to put them back on in October, so lets express our happiness! Here's some of mine (took it off today):

Not from today, unfortunately. Can't wait to get the hard top off, and soft top back on in a few weeks!

Ha! I just ordered my trektop NX. It will be here by this time next week. I'll post some pics next weekend. I don't care if I have to blast the heat, I'll have that hard top off for the weekend ha!

I have the regular trek top. I was too lazy to put it on today so I was cruising down I-94 with no top and 40 degrees :) I did have the cargo top on so at least I looked cool.

Still too cool for me, but 12 was a very good year.

Looks like snow in the forecast later this week, so hopefully by next weekend. Picking up my summer top Wednesday, so I'm geeked to get it switched soon!

REEDracing94 04-07-2013 10:47 AM

Last weekend.

jkmohican 04-07-2013 01:44 PM

Yeah this week is suppose to suck. You guys really don't know the pain I went through to get my soft top on... I had to use a hair dryer. That's Michigan for ya!

Couldn't put the soft top on since it's snowing and too cold up here to install it.
This was at Drummond Island this past weekend and I'm glad I had the hardtop on to keep the wife warm and happy.

jkmohican 04-09-2013 08:49 PM

Lookin good. Yeah the soft top was an absolute pain in the rear end to put on (see pictures above). But 50 degrees to me is pretty warm so I had to get it on.

Get it as warm as you can before you install it. Makes it a TON easier.

J33P4X4 04-17-2013 07:27 PM

How? I have a heater in my garage. I'm sure i could get it up to 80 degrees this time of year. Or are you talking about a heat gun?

idiot magnet 04-17-2013 08:01 PM

Ideally is waiting for a nice warm day and setting it out in the sun, but that's not Michigan in April.
I've used heaters in the past to warm the top and I would hang the soft top with rope from say the tracks for your garage door and place the heater under it and when you think it's warm enough install it. I would also warm the windows, but don't get them too close to the heater. The tops now are far more forgiving unlike the old style CJ tops that had snaps and were a huge pain to get on.
I try not to use heat guns, since it concentrates the heat in one area and the potential to damage them is greater, but a good hair dryer would work. Others may have luck with heat guns but I don't use them for this.
Good luck on the install.

Yeah, I saw that. I just might be using the hair dryer on my jeep. I was hoping it would be nice so I could just take the hardtop off on Friday and have a nice warm Sunday to put the trektop on. No such luck.

It really wasn't worth it. It was too much work for so little time of fun. Just wait, Michigan will give us the treatment we deserve. The hair dryer technique is a pain. Side note, the trek top is a pain to get on the first time. Took me about 4 hours to get it on the first time. If you need help, let me know, because my knuckles were bleeding the first time I put it on alone.

Finally! Had the day off today for my birthday, so I finally got a chance to get the freedom tops off. And, my wife & kids bought me the trektop nx as a bday gift, so I can't wait to get it put on!

That's an awesome picture. This whole week is suppose to be sunny and warm. So tops down, doors off, and cigars in hand, it's about damn time!
