What's the Best Gas Cap?

Good Day! I hope you're enjoying a pleasant one.

What is your opinion regarding the Best Gas Cap (non-locking)?

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Is your's missing? Cause I've never had a problem with the stock one.

I can tell you from personal experience stay away from the brand that Vatozone carries. I've broken 2 locking ones but they were under warranty.

I just recently got the gas cap code and replaced mine with a Stanton 10838 cap and haven't had any problems as of yet, this was only a few days ago though.

Sorry for double post, auto correct is the worst. It is a Stant not Stanton.

I liked the stock one best. Unfortunately, I had a brain fart while lowering my gas tank and broke mine

Yea I'm on my phone right now and couldn't figure out how to edit it on here.

Unfortunately I never had the original cap. PO had some random cap that I'm not sure was even made for a tj on it.. It worked for a while but eventually the p0455 code showed up

I had a cheesy POS cap on mine when I bought it. It'd leak once in a while (PO456) .
I replaced it with a Stant.

Yep! ...P0442, P0456, P0456... that's my collection... I want to make sure as I'm troubleshooting this EVAP issue that the Cap has integrity. I'm willing to spend the money, but more importantly, no matter what the cost, I want the Magical Golden Cap that seals up like the front door of your average nuclear submarine.

Stant Caps

Yes I had the same issue with po456 code so I purchased a Murray cap
at smog station because the smog tech said gas cap would not pass test
A short check engine code pop up again the same po456 so I bought a stant 11838 a put silicone dielectric grease on the rubber ring presto no
more code 11501 stant cap is locking cap I hope this helps someone with the same problem .:whacky:

IslandTJ 11-05-2013 06:36 PM

I replaced mine with a Stant and that was in 2003, it's been 13 years and I have not had any issues.

dennism 11-10-2013 06:57 PM

Hi my 2001 TJ 4.0 gives a po456 code every few weeks cleared code and soon again a week or so light cane back on did all the gas cap tricks and replaced cap
two times with new no luck finally after chasing shadows for weeks found a razor
thin crack in the 5/16 one inch rubber connector hose that plastic tube from canister to EGR solenoid thank God no more codes

I bought a locking gas cap from O'Reilly (formerly Hi-Lo Auto). Four days later, I went to remove the cap to fuel up, and almost couldn't unlock the cap.

As for right now, I don't lock the gas cap. It just looks like it's locked.
