98 TJ Wire harness questions

Ok... so, I have a post on here about 2.5 engine help as well, so plz check that out for further info...

I've replaced my camshaft position sensor thinking that might be the real issue before replacing the crankshaft position sensor.

The question I have here is.... When I ordered my Camshaft sensor, I ordered the part for a 98. Trouble is, it's a 99 harness. Now, does that mean that ALL of the parts/sensors I need to order should be 99 as well? Or will it be on an "as needed" basis?

I'm pretty shure my CPS is gone, and I'm just wondering if I should order it for a 98, or 99? And how can I tell without pulling the dang harness apart and checking all of the adapters etc each time I try to order something.

I know that after a certain month of the year, manufacturers start putting the NEW year parts on the OLD year vehicle etc. Could this be the case with my jeep? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

As far as I am aware, Jeep didn't actually build any Wrangler in 99. I have what is known as a 99 TJ, but if I check on anything and according to the build sheet, VIN etc, it is a 98.

I should think you will be OK with what you have ordered.

Ok.... sorry, it's a 98 TJ... And some of the harness' have been for a 99

Please don't apologise. I was just saying that I don't think you will have a problem with the difference in build dates.

However, it is a Jeep. They never seem to make things simple.

What is the problem that makes you think you need a cam (or crank) sensor?

Engine not starting since the harness was replaced??

Well.... its a long story lol. The short version is... the jeep was running fine. Pulled i to the gas station and put fuel in. Jeep instantly ran like crap. Figured it was bad gas or got some junk from the tank. Put in dry gas and injector cleaner. Jeep ran rough and started hard for another day and a half. Since at the end of that half day on the way back from work it ran the best it had since i have owned it. For about six miles. Parked it. And it hasnt fired back up since. Since then i have replaced both cam and crank sensors. And have ran i to it being multiple year harnesses. The cam sensor was for a 99 after two trips to the parts store. The crank sensor seemed to be fine when ordering a 98. I have a spark at the plug. Fuel in the rail. And all of the fuses check out. But it simply will not start. Itll turn over till ya run the battery dead but wont start.

Since you have spark try opening the throttle when cranking & see if it will start. If not then try putting gas in the throttle body & try starting it that way.
