Rigged Ridge battery tray 07-11 into a 2012?
So I am thinking about taking a gamble and seeing what I can do about fitting a Rugged Ridge Battery tray from 07-11 into my 2012. After talking to Rugged Ridge looks like they will not even be looking into engineering a tray anytime soon.
Everyone and everything says no it won’t fit. But why won’t it fit? From the looks of it the tray mounts to the firewall the same way. I measured the area of the 2012 battery tray it is 15” plus. The older model R/R tray appears to be under that or so it seems width it si ok, I have not been able to find any for sure Dimensions on the tray width but going to call tomorrow and get the specs from R/R. From the looks of it the tray is barley wider than two batteries and there is that much extra room easy in the 2012 JK.

Now to the battery swap out between years. I don’t see this being a problem after looking at the Diehard Platinum P-5 Battery install. These should fit side by side in the tray and Dimensions are just under that of an Optima other than height, so my math says two of the Diehard’s will fit. Also the battery cables will hook up with the battery as you see in the linked thread above the battery is sideways just like it would be in the dual battery tray.

Optima 34/78 (Fits the tray)
Specifications & Dimensions

38.8 lb
10.06 in
6.94 in
7.88 in

DieHard Platinum:
Specifications & Dimensions
Group Size: 35
Height: 8.9
Weight: 50.0
Length: 9.5
Width: 6.9

I don’t mind dropping 100 bucks on a gamble that I can make it work and it look professional when it is done. If it is not neat I will not have it I don’t do the rats nest or hacked up metal. What I am unsure about is how the accessories like the electrical box will bolt up to the bracket. But looking at the install instruction for the older model looks like the electrical box will mount to it.

So I might try to order it on Monday worst case if it is just completely not doable I will sell the tray on craigslist. But looking for any thoughts advise, or suggestions. I do have a metal fabricator/welder that I can call on to assist in building metal brackets if I need it. The reasoning for trying to make the Rugged Ridge one fit is I like the look of it better than any other and certainly not a fan of the M.O.R.E. one it just looks weak and the fact that they could not take the time to at least put in matching batteries for photos is a turn off for me but that is just the OCD kicking in again. Also I know the dual battery tray will work with the Rugged Ridge snorkel 07-11, I hope that seeing it looks to mount the same that the snorkel and tray would be compatible here to that is if the tray even fits. There is a lot of WHAT IF’s here. But what if no one ever tried to do what they were told would not work.

I will be updating soon. Have not actually got started yet. But talked to the tech dept. at R/R again and they cannot confirm or deny the fitment. Seeing how I just got a set of R/R floor mats at no cost the 100 bucks for the tray is a non-issue.

I tried to install this by Rugged Ridge will not fit in the 2012 contrary to what 4WD Hardware web-site claims. Total waist of time. I will be returning it on Monday. If anyone knows a dual tray that fits the 2012 I would love to hear. thx

Thanks I know the M.O.R.E. (mountain offroad) will fit. Any details as to why the Rugged Ridge one would not fit? Would it bolt up to the fire wall? I just emailed Rugged Ridge yesterday asking for more details.
