Ham Antenna Hard Top Install - Fanatics Only - Part III

Continuing.......

To clean up the install, I hot-glued some auto carpeting available at Walmart to the fiberglass and hot head liners. A sharp razor blade trimmed up the rough edges. You can see the coax coming out in the lower left corner. I hot glued this along the top and then along the driver's side side of the top.

Should be ready for install tomorrow, along with the install of the PL-259 on the end of the coax.

Keep it coming, I'm very interested in how it turns out.

hi ya. this install looks great, and I can't wait to see if it turns out. here's a forum related suggestion though, make it all one thread. with it all being on one thread people won't have to refer back to several because it will all be in one clean thread. it might take several posts to that thread but it will be all in one place. if you don't know how to do that send me a pm... I would love to help you out.

Not much else I can say about this mod without renting an Antenna Testing range. I don't believe in using my ears to make that determination. I cannot reach any repeaters that I couldn't with my original rear corner mounted 1/2 wave antenna. But that doesn't mean anything. I can hit our local repeaters with a 6" rubber duck. The other repeaters are 50+ miles away.

But in theory, I can now use my 1/4 wave "coffee cup" antenna, 1/4 wave whip and 5/8 wave whip and have the proper radiation pattern.

Any way you put a 1/4 or 1/2 wave on top and send the pic? I want to see what it would look like at a bit of a distance.
